Metabo Introduces 18 V Cordless Combination Kit with Drill/Driver and Circular Saw

West Chester, PA, February 2006 -- Metabo Corporation, a leading international manufacturer of professional grade portable electric power tools and abrasives for industrial, construction and welding applications, has introduced an 18 V cordless drill/driver and circular saw combination kit. The BSZ 18 Cordless Drill/Driver is ideal for a wide variety of construction and industrial work including drilling, tapping, and driving screws. The KSAP 18 Cordless 6-1/2" Circular Saw is ideal for cut-off and ripping lumber up to 2-1/8" thick, making pocket cuts into flooring, and cutting roof ridge vents and skylight openings.

The BSZ 18 drill features a new motor that offers increased power of up to 549 inch-lbs. of torque, plus 20 torque settings and a drill setting, with forward and reverse modes. Onboard Variospeed electronics allow infinite no-load speeds up to 1,450 rpm. The new drill/driver features Metabo's spindle lock for one-handed bit changing using a 1/2" keyless chuck, and an ergonomic, rubber-coated T-handle with a built-in clip that holds a screw driving bit.

The drill/driver uses a smooth gear change mechanism with 3-level planetary gears to extend tool life. The optimized fan helps keep the motor cool under load. The Metabo BSZ 18 can drill up to 1/2" holes in mild steel and up to 1-3/16" holes in soft wood. The tool weighs 4.85 lbs. with battery.

The KSAP 18 features a high efficiency motor that provides more cuts per battery charge than any saw in its class. The ergonomic design of the new circular saw helps to reduce operator fatigue by keeping the wrist in line, and the rubber coated handle improves operator handling. The spindle stop system allows for easy changes of standard 6-1/2" x 5/8" saw blades. A firmly locking bevel plate provides bevel cuts up to 47°.

The saw has a safety lock switch and an integrated dust extraction port for easy hook up to a vacuum, minimizing cleanup time and dust inhalation. The KSAP 18 has a maximum cutting depth of 2-1/8" at 90° and 1-5/8" at 45° and a no-load speed of
2,500 rpm. The movable and fixed blade guards, as well as the shoe, are made from die cast aluminum making the saw very sturdy, but light. The saw weighs only 10.4 pounds.

Both tools utilize Metabo's patented air-cooled battery system to increase performance and keep the tool working longer. The charging system cools both the battery and the charger, keeping the battery at the optimum charging temperature. This results in 30% faster charging and an increased service life of up to 2,000 charges.

The combination kit includes both tools, an AC30 charger, two 18 volt 2.0 Ah Ni-Cad batteries and a heavy duty carrying case.
