Tool Kit facilitates installation of crimp style connectors.

Press Release Summary:

Intended for use with Versatile link® connectors, Installer's Tool Kit includes hand tool that can terminate fiber and strip jacket to proper length, as well as crimp tool that installs connector with consistent results every time. Blade on termination tool is mounted on gear assembly that rotates blade every time user cuts fiber for even wear. After 1,260 cuts, cutting assembly will stop and prevent usage of unit until replacement cutting head is installed.

Original Press Release:

New Tool Kit for the Avago Technologies Versatile Link® Connector

FiberFin, of Yorkville, IL, has just release new tool kit for the Versatile link® crimp style connectors. This toolkit has everything that the installer has been asking for! The finishing tool that takes the polishing out of the assembly process and the ease and the repetitive process of the assembly that guarantees a quality connection. Then we put it in a handy traveling case for a place to store the connectors, strain reliefs, bulkheads, extra cutter head and a 10x eye loop for inspection "according to Paul Mulligan, President of FiberFin.

The Versatile link® connector system for plastic optical fiber (POF) has been around for many years and has served the Industrial / Automation world very well with low-cost high-speed data transmission for applications such as networking. The job of installing these connectors has been simplified with the new FiberFin Versatile link Installers kit.

Paul comments to say "This kit was tailored made for the installer so that they have one tool kit that can do all the jobs of installation". The FiberFin hand tool can terminate the fiber, strip the jacket to the proper length and crimp tool can install the connector with consistent results every time which is a must for the professional installer. The termination process is very unique it is done by clamping the POF cable into place and then squeezing it and then a very precise round razor blade can cut the cable with a scissor like action without damaging the fiber. Damage to the fiber is a very common occurrence when you try to just cut POF with a normal razor blade, The exit cut will chip the fiber and cladding and the cut will not be as precise and perpendicular as with the FiberFin termination system that has a average attenuation loss 1.0 -1.5 db. The special blade on the FiberFin "termination tool" is mounted on a gear assembly that rotates the blade every time you cut a fiber so that you get even wear on the cutting blade and very constant fiber termination results. After 1260 cuts the cutting assembly will stop and prevent the usage of the unit, at this time you are able to put on the replacement cutting head that is supplied with the kit and you're ready to go again. FiberFin's cutting system is a safe way to handle termination of POF as the cutting system is enclosed and user friendly. Paul also concludes "attenuation is the limiting factor as regards to link length, so connectors in High speed data cabling need to have a very good attenuation characteristic. This requires the best possible termination techniques and processes this is found in the FiberFin Termination tools

FiberFin will be demonstrating its POF termination tools March 27-29, 2007 at the Anaheim Convention Center (Booth 1569) and at the POFTO Pavilion
