New ER-style Tool Holding System for Bridgeport and Other Knee Mills

Hardinge now offers R8, ER-style collet holders for use on Bridgeport and other knee-mills. Holders are stocked in three sizes to hold ER-style toolholder collets to grip drills, taps, reamers, end mills, boring bars and special round shank end-working tools. One holder will accommodate a range of ER-style collets for a fast tool-to-tool change. The maximum round tool capacities are 3/8" (ER16), 25/32" (ER32), and 1" (ER40).

Hardinge ER-style toolholder collets are of a multi-slot design to provide maximum gripping force for efficient "push-back" control. This control helps prolong tool life, which in turn reduces machine downtime to produce more parts per hour. All locating surfaces are precision ground to assure extremely close tolerances. The manufacturing process ensures that each collet will have a TIR (total indicator reading) of .0005" or less.

Hardinge also manufactures standard R8 collets incorporating a unique design concept to reduce downtime. The patented "one-piece" construction eliminates breakage commonly associated with other brand R8 collets that have a two-piece design with a separate bushing. In the two-piece design the bushing often breaks off in the spindle and results in the costly replacement of the spindle drawbar as well as the collet. The Hardinge one-piece design has proven to be a productive and economic replacement for shops currently using other brand R8 collets.
