New Floating Shave Tool Holder Packages For Tornos Multiple-Spindle Screw Machines Now Available From Schlitter Tool
New floating shave tool holder packages that are designed specifically for application on Tornos multiple-spindle screw machines are now available from Schlitter Tool Inc., 27450 Gloede Drive, Warren, Michigan 48088.
The Tornos shave tool holders are manufactured here in the U.S.A. from high-alloy steel providing added strength and rigidity. Schlitter has applied the same materials and precision manufacturing to these new Tornos tools as they do to their own standard shave tool holder lines. The tools compensate for machine spindle and indexing movements. They eliminate OD size and concentricity variations. They improve knurling and threading operations as well as surface finish, reducing resulting grinding requirements.
The Schlitter design features a key that is an integral part of the holder preventing chips from packing into the keyway and adversely affecting the taper mechanism, a common problem associated with designs that have removable keys.
A single calibrated screw is part of the holder design to provide zero backlash taper adjustment. The holders have a removable tool post, so either insert style or standard 5/8-inch dovetail tooling can be used. Two holder designs are currently available, Fig. 1.
Schlitter also provides the special pre-formed rectangular cutting tool inserts. These are produced from specially-engineered supercarbide and super high-speed-steel to provide maximum toughness. Complete design and manufacture for dovetail cutting tools is also provided by Schlitter. The holders are available direct from Schlitter or through their distributor network.
