Emuge "Thrillers" Increase Productivity, Profits By Handling Up To Four Cutting Operations In One Tool

NORTHBOROUGH, MA (June 6, 2002 ) - The Emuge Corporation has just
expanded their thrilling capabilities again to include "Mosys" (Modular System), a new tool holder system. When incorporating Emuge Thrillers into the Mosys Tool Holder, drilling, threading, chamfering, spot facing or counterboring can be done in one pass,
improving productivity by up to 70% through cycle time savings, fewer tooling changeovers and less machine down time. Basically, four cutting tools and operations are combined into one tool, the Mosys System.

"Thrilling", a technology propelled by Emuge in recent years, is accomplished via a solid carbide cutting tool that includes a twist drill point, a thread milling element for threading, chamfering element, and straight cylindrical shank with flat for clamping. The resulting effect is hole drilling, threading and chamfering are completed in one operation. A fourth operation, spot facing or counterboring, is possible when an Emuge Thriller is inserted into the Mosys Tool Holder, which incorporates an interchangeable, bolt-on solid carbide face milling head (or solid carbide counterboring head).

Flexibility is a major factor in the design of the Mosys Holder, because it allows adaptability for different hole making operations. This makes Mosys a simple and cost effective solution for replacing worn tools.

"Thread milling with Emuge Thrillers, when used in a modern CNC machine with helical interpolation ability, offer unparalleled speed, flexibility, precision cutting, tool life and value compared to conventional thread cutting methods," claims Mark Hatch, Manager, Thread Milling Systems for Emuge. Several of the many benefits Thrillers offer include the ability to produce high quality threads with excellent fit, form and finish, high cutting speeds and feeds, plus one tool is used for both left and right hand threads and for through and blind holes. In addition, Thrillers eliminate the need for self-reversing tapping attachments and no reversal of the spindle is required.

"Perhaps the biggest difference is how Emuge Thrillers significantly improve productivity and lower production costs through a reduction of up to 70% in machining time, achievable via the multi-functional tool designs that combine operations," said Peter Matysiak, President of Emuge.

With over a dozen tools covering 3 different lengths, UNC, UNF, Metric Coarse and Metric Fine threads, Emuge offers the most extensive line of in-stock Thrillers in the industry. In addition, Emuge offers custom engineered Thrillers to meet specific application needs for size, threads, machining speed, coatings and more.

The key to Emuge Thrillers' exceptional performance is in the product design and quality; micro grain carbide, advanced cutting geometries, multiple flutes, select PVD coatings and internal coolant supply.

Thrillers perform best in sturdy CNC machines with helical interpolation, a minimal spindle rotation of 5000 rpm, internal coolant supply (IKZ) with at least 221 PSI pressure and a powerful computer.
