NKK Switches' New Subminiature PC-Mount Toggle Switches Enable Logic-Level Applications

First switch products approved by the Quality Assessment System of IEC

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (May 24, 2002) - NKK Switches leads the industry in design and product offerings for board level switch devices, offering the new A series subminiature washable PC-mount toggle switches.

Specifically designed for logic level applications, A series toggles are the first switch products to be approved by the Quality Assessment System of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). The A series incorporates NKK's award-winning and patented Sliding Twin Crossbar (STC) contact mechanism, which ensures unparalleled switching reliability and a smoother positive detent action.

A series toggles are available in both single- and double-pole models with a comprehensive offering of 11 circuits in momentary and maintained actions. Actuators can be specified in a myriad of styles, lengths and colors, as well as with matching indicators. Actuator options include standard bats, anti-static levers, flatted levers and snap-on paddles.

The body of the A series toggle has a height of merely .516-inch. Widths of the single-pole and double-pole versions are .230-inch and .374-inch respectively (these measurements include a bushing length of only .177-inch). Conforming to standard PC board grids for easier board layout, the terminals are .100 X .100-inch spacing. Engineers can select from several different mounting options including straight PC in bracketed and unbracketed models, vertical and right angle mounts.

With totally sealed body construction, NKK's process sealed A series withstands the automated soldering techniques prevalent in today's manufacture and assembly of finished products. The switch's epoxy sealed and molded-in terminals lock out flux, solvents and other contaminants. The case housing is constructed of glass-reinforced polyamide. Stationary contacts are brass with gold plating over nickel coating and the movable contact is phosphor bronze with gold plating over silver plating.

A series toggles are rated 0.4VA maximum @ 28V AC/DC maximum. On-None-On and On-OFF-ON circuits have a mechanical life of 100,000 operations minimum, while it is 50,000 operations minimum for all other circuits. The electrical life is rated at 50,000 operations minimum. The contact timing is nonshorting and the angle of throw is 26 degrees.

A leading designer and producer of electromechanical switches, NKK Switches offers one of the industry's most extensive selections of illuminated, process sealed, miniature, specialty and surface mount switches. The company manufacturers more than three million different toggle, rocker, pushbutton, slide, rotary, DIP rotary, keypad and keylock switches. NKK Switches maintains a complete network of qualified representatives and distributors throughout the United States, Canada, Central and South America, Europe and Asia.
