NKK Switches Announces Environmentally Sealed Toggle Switch For Use In Outdoor And Harsh Applications

- Designed to meet needs of applications that require an environmentally sealed solution
- Sealed construction conforms to IP67 of IEC529 standards
- Actuator and base are epoxy sealed
- Bushing features both an inner and outer sealing ring
- Conforms fully to IP67 of IEC standards at front and behind panel

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (Aug. 5, 2002) - NKK Switches, an industry leader in the design and manufacture of electromechanical switches, introduces the WT series of toggle switches. These new, cost effective, environmentally sealed switches, are specifically engineered for use in outdoor and harsh applications.

The WT switches' sealed construction conforms to IP67 of IEC529 standards, while the single unit construction of the bushing and top of the housing provides added protection from abrasive elements. To prevent the entry of contaminants, the actuator and base are epoxy sealed, and the bushing features both an inner and outer sealing ring.

An outer housing of heat resistant resin meets UL 94V-O flammability standards and provides high arc and tracking resistance. Furthermore, the switches have an anti-jamming design to protect contacts from damage due to excessive downward force on the actuator.

Designed to meet the needs of applications that require an environmentally sealed solution, the WT series of toggles is rated at 10A @ 125V AC and 6A @ 250V AC or 10A @ 30V DC. Their specially designed, interlocked switching mechanism breaks light welds, in turn allowing minimal contact bounce and qualifying these toggle switches to IEC 61058 (UL 61058-1).

The WT series comes standard in single and double pole, momentary or maintained actions and in six circuit configurations. Threaded bushings are 12 mm for standard panel cut out mounting.

Engineers can specify solder lug, screw or wire lead terminals. All models conform fully to IP67 of IEC standards at front and behind panel.

Solder lug and screw terminal models meet IP67 of IEC529 standards at front panel, indicating the switch is dust tight and water protected for temporary immersion. Dust tight but not water protected, the behind panel is IP60.

The switches' wire leads are sheathed with heat resistant vinyl in accordance with UL 1015 and CSA TEW 105 standards for Appliance Wiring Material (AWM).

Mechanical life for maintained circuits is 50,000 operations minimum and 30,000 operations minimum for momentary circuits. The electrical life is 15,000 operations minimum for all configurations, and dielectric strength is rated 1,500V AC minimum. In addition, the switches' operating temperature ranges from -30°C to 70°C (-22°F to 158°F).

A leading designer and producer of electromechanical switches, NKK Switches offers one of the industry's most extensive selections of illuminated, process sealed, miniature, specialty and surface mount switches. The company manufactures more than three million toggle, rocker, pushbutton, slide, rotary, DIP rotary, keypad and keylock switches. NKK Switches maintains a complete network of qualified representatives and distributors throughout the United States, Canada, Central and South America, Europe and Asia.
