Timberline Improves Production with MarquipWardUnited Vanguard Installation
PHILLIPS, Wis. - September 17, 2007 - MarquipWardUnited, a leading manufacturer of
machinery for the corrugated industry, has announced the successful installation of a Vanguard Automatic Singlefacer at Timberline Packaging Corporation in Coal Center, Pa.
According to Bill Hutchinson, owner and president of Timberline Packaging, Inc., it was
a flawless installation. "When we started up the new machine and got it running, everything was good. The installation was good, the board was good, and the operators received good training," Hutchinson said.
Timberline reported record shipping levels in August using the new singlefacer from
MarquipWardUnited. "Previously we ran 24 hours a day, five to six days a week," Hutchinson explained. "We currently run two shifts, and our average speed has gone up almost every day since the upgrade. On regular runs, we run two-and-a-half times as fast. With this upgrade, we will reach capabilities of 100 million square feet per month." Hutchinson said he was motivated to purchase a new singlefacer for two main reasons: "We were sold out and we had also reached our capacity. With our Vanguard Singlefacer from MarquipWardUnited, I'm hoping to double production. The board quality is excellent, and the uniformity of the flute formation has improved immensely. It has also increased our printing capabilities on the converting end."
Other investments have also been made to support Timberline's growing capacity. In the last few years, the company has added many other upgrades to its corrugator, as well as a new stacker, gun-drilled hot plates and three new splicers. "We were busy doing a lot of things in the last 10 months that are now completed," Hutchinson
said. "We purchased a flexo machine that MarquipWardUnited had taken in on trade, we
relocated one of our existing flexo machines to our Coal Center plant, and we hired an
additional 15 people to handle the workload. Everything throughout the plant is now being pushed by the corrugator. With the team of managers we have and with our corrugator employees at an average age of 25, we can do anything we put our minds to."
When asked how the operators like the new MarquipWardUnited Vanguard Singlefacer,
Hutchinson replied, "They tell me it's like driving a Lexus rather than a Model T."
