Thread Sensors suit ferrous/non-ferrous materials.

Press Release Summary:

Eddy-Current Probes feature sensing elements that extend beyond probe body for inspection of threaded holes. T series detects tapped threads in ferrous and non-ferrous materials and uses traditional eddy-current probe design. R series detects roll-formed threads in ferrous materials and features radially mounted sensing coils. Probes work in conjunction with company's eddy-current probe drivers ECA100 and ECL100.

Lion Precision Releases Eddy-Current Thread Sensors for Ferrous and Nonferrous Materials

St. Paul, MN USA, June 1, 2004 A major automotive manufacturer lost over $1 million in 2003 due to untapped holes in aluminum engine heads. To help address this problem, Lion Precision has released two series of eddy-current probes developed specifically for thread detection. The "T" series detects tapped threads in either ferrous or nonferrous materials. The "R" series detects roll-formed threads in ferrous materials. Both feature sensing elements that extend well beyond the probe body to allow penetration for inspection of threaded holes.

The "T" series uses a traditional eddy-current probe design, but the "R" series features unique, radially mounted sensing coils. Radial mounting of the coils focuses the probe's magnetic field directly toward the threads which increases the systems sensitivity to thread presence/absence. This added sensitivity is often required in the detection of roll-formed threads. The probes work in conjunction with Lion Precision eddy-current probe drivers - the ECA100 and the ECL100. The ECL100 is used with nonferrous materials and the ECA100 is used with ferrous materials. Systems are currently available for the following thread sizes: Tapped threads in ferrous materials - M6x1 thru M16x2 or 1/4-20 thru 5/8-18 (T-series, ECA100) Tapped threads in nonferrous materials - M5x0.8 thru M12x1.75 or 1/4-20 thru 1/2-13 (T-Series, ECL100) Roll-formed threads in ferrous materials - M6x1 thru M12x1.75 or 1/4-20 thru 1/2-13 (R-Series, ECA100)
