Thomson Recognized as 2013 Control Design Reader's Choice

Awards recognize Thomson for excellence in the Ball Screw/Lead Screw and Linear Actuator/Slide/Guide technology categories

WOOD DALE, IL – Thomson has been recognized by Control Design magazine as the 2013 Reader's Choice for technology excellence in the Ball Screw/Lead Screw and Linear Motion Actuator/Slide/Guide categories. Thomson Received 34% of reader's votes in the Ball Screw/Lead Screw category, and 24% of reader's votes in the Linear Motion Actuator/Slide/Guide categories – more than twice the number of votes received by any other company in these categories.

Thomson has decades of experience manufacturing quality ball and lead screw products, stretching back to the first aviation ball screw installed in a Boeing B29 in 1939.. Thomson offers currently the widest range of ball screw products in the industry – including rolled and ground thread screws in both imperial and metric sizes. Thomson precision lead screws are of the highest quality and readily available for rapid prototyping. The company's precision rolling machines ensure accurate positioning to 0.003 in/ft and, and the PTFE coating process produces assemblies that have less drag torque and last longer. Thomson can customize ball and lead screw solutions to nearly any application requirement.

Continuing the tradition of technology innovation from Thomson, Glide Screw™ is a new patent-pending mechanical linear motion solution which combines the features of a linear bearing and a lead screw into a single, compact package. The Glide Screw's integrated and pre-aligned lead screw and linear bearing design smoothly and quietly actuates a moment load or side load without additional support. The Glide Screw's simplified design speeds installation and simplifies bills of material, while an integrated lubrication block virtually eliminates maintenance requirements.

Thomson linear actuators offer best fits for a variety of general purpose and industrial applications. Designed in compact housings to fit in the most confined areas, these actuators are rugged, durable, and ideal anywhere users want to lift, lower, push, pull, rotate or position a load. They come in a wide range of standard and customizable stroke lengths and are available in both DC and AC models - optionally packaged with a wide selection of controls and accessories.

Thomson also has a heritage of linear actuator-related technology innovation, most recently with Max Jac® - a heavy-duty linear actuator that delivers reliable and virtually maintenance free operation while maintaining accuracy in the harshest application conditions.

Control Design magazine's Reader's Choice awards are the result of an unaided survey of subscribers who have authority to specify, recommend or purchase industrial automation and control products.
