Thin Spring-Applied Brake come in torque ratings up to 445 lb-in.

Press Release Summary:

Offered in 7 sizes which collectively cover 35–445 lb-in. torque range, TNB series features thin design made possible via optimized flux path and coefficient of friction of material used. These spring-applied brakes are mainly designed for holding but may also be used to handle emergency stops up to brake's allowable engagement energy rating. While products were created to meet needs of servo motor and robotics industry, they might also serve in portable medical equipment.

Original Press Release:

New Spring-Applied Brake Series Available from Ogura

A new line of spring-applied brakes is now available from Ogura Industrial Corporation.  The new series model name is TNB.  The brake is available in seven sizes ranging in torque from 35 to 445 in. lbs.  The new brakes are approximately 60% thinner than the previous RNB brake series.  This new thinner design was accomplished by optimizing the flux path using finite element methods developed by Ogura.  The brake also has a special high coefficient friction material.  The combination of the new flux path and new material allowed for this significant reduction in width.

The brake is mainly designed for holding, but can be used to handle emergency stops up to the brake’s allowable engagement energy rating. The brake was created to meet the needs of the servo motor and robotics industry where space is always at a premium.  Since less material is used, the brakes are lighter which can be important for applications like portable medical equipment.

Ogura has been producing clutches and brakes since 1938.  Over that time, we have developed over 5,000 different models of clutches and brakes.  Although Ogura primarily produces electromagnetic clutches and brakes, we also produce magnet particle, mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic and a variety of specialty products.  Ogura is the world’s largest manufacturer of electromagnetic clutches and brakes.  Current manufacturing capacity is over 30 million units per year.  To provide localized support, we have fourteen manufacturing plants spread throughout the world in Asia, The Americas, and Europe.  All manufacturing facilities are ISO recognized and conform to the ISO 9001;2008, ISO 140001, and ISO/TS 16949.
