MEYCO® Global Underground Construction Introduces Thin Spray-on Liner

MEYCO TSL 865 offers strength, ease of use for underground coal and other mining applications

CLEVELAND, OH, August 10, 2009 - The MEYCO Global Underground Construction business of BASF is strengthening its portfolio in North America for underground coal mining with the introduction of a new, elastic polymer-based thin spray-on liner (TSL) for weathering protection of soil and rock. MEYCO TSL 865 thin spray-on liner offers excellent bond to concrete, rock and coal, providing reinforcement and stabilization for a variety of underground applications.

MEYCO TSL 865 thin spray-on liner is mixed with water in the spraying nozzle, hitting the substrate as a paste and setting within five to 10 minutes, tack free. The product will generate tensile and bond strength over the subsequent hours, days and weeks. Combined with its high elasticity, MEYCO TSL 865 thin spray-on liner substantially improves ground stability and stand-up time.

MEYCO TSL 865 thin spray-on liner also provides important safety benefits. An exceptional moisture barrier, it successfully prevents the passage of radon gas and methane gas. It also has a high capacity to resist fire, and adds supplemental strength to strategic areas of the mine where people and critical infrastructure are often present.

"With technological advancements like MEYCO TSL 865, we are continuing to help the mining industry combat the inherently difficult conditions of working underground," said Chris Gause, North American Sales Manager, MEYCO Global UndergroundConstruction, BASF. "MEYCO TSL 865 is an excellent value for coal mines, where speed of application, cost control, and enhanced safety are clearly desired."

MEYCO TSL 865 thin spray-on liner may be used for rock reinforcement in preliminary slope protection, binding the surface before the area is ready for sprayed concrete. It can protect against hard rock strain bursting, reduce air-slaking and rock weathering, rehabilitate collapsed areas, and otherwise help maintain the integrity of the mine.

MEYCO Global Underground Construction is the new name for the Underground Construction Group (UGC) of BASF. The business is a leading supplier of worldwide customized solutions for the underground mining industry, including the latest technologies and equipment for sprayed concrete, mechanical excavation (TBM), injection, waterproofing and backfill.
