IGEL's Latest Linux Firmware Delivers the Broadest Range of Digital Services In the Thin Client Market

New support for VMware's Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), NoMachine's NX protocol and Citrix ICA 10, combined with existing digital services, such as RDP, web, terminal emulation, Java and VoIP, allow customers to access, from a single device, almost any form of server-based computing infrastructure.

Reading, UK, 24th July 2007: IGEL Technology today announced its latest Linux firmware upgrade delivering the most powerful range of thin clients on the market starting at just 249/£162 (+VAT) for a dual monitor capable device. The new firmware has added two important new digital services; a Leostream Client for accessing Virtual desktops via VDI and also the NoMachine NX 3.0 client for bandwidth optimized access to server-based Linux applications running on NoMachine NX Server. In addition, the latest Citrix ICA 10 client is integrated in the new firmware release.

The firmware allows full virtual desktop access via the Leostream Connection Broker. Any organisation using this combination of server products can now use IGEL's award-winning product line for accessing virtual desktops.

Support for NoMachine's NX protocol opens up the possibility to efficiently access Linux applications even over narrow bandwidth connections. This allows organisations to combine the cost and security benefits of open source software with the cost, security and manageability benefits of IGEL thin clients.

Finally, the firmware also includes the latest Citrix ICA 10 client with increased security levels and an improved user experience, including auto reconnect to all disconnected applications on re-login. This makes it ideal for users in an environment with an intermittent network connection such as wireless.

"With this latest firmware release, IGEL is offering the greatest depth of digital services in a single thin client in the market," said Stephen Yeo, worldwide strategic marketing director for IGEL Technology. "Using one, low cost, manageable device, you can now connect to almost any server-based infrastructure including Citrix-hosted applications, virtual PCs, and server-based Linux applications. This is in addition to other digital services such as RDP, web, terminal emulation, Java and VoIP. It demonstrates IGEL's digital services strategy and gives organisations the freedom to choose the right digital services and access protocols for their business. No vendor offers this breadth of digital services and range of thin client form factors."

The latest Linux firmware upgrade is available from July 27th 2007 and will be available on all recent IGEL Linux based thin clients[1], including IGEL's PC conversion card. Existing IGEL customers will also be able to download, from www.igel.com, the latest version of the firmware and upgrade their IGEL Linux thin clients[2] free of charge

[1] The NX 3.0 client, ICA 10 and a Leostream client (VDI) will be available across all of IGEL's recent Linux thin clients. Other digital services, such as VoIP and Java are only available on select models.
