Thick Film Chip Resistors handle 2 W of power.

Press Release Summary:

Able to achieve tolerances of 1% and 5% at TCR of 100 ppm, 2512 size RHC Series is available in E24 values from 0.1 W up to 1 MW with continuous working voltage of 200 V. Units are trimmed to evenly distribute heat over surface of resistive element. RoHS-compliant resistors are suited for applications requiring high power density such as large control systems, power supplies, UPS systems, and HVAC controls.

Stackpole Electronics, Inc. Introduces A True 2W 2512 Size Chip Resistor

RALEIGH, N.C. (October 3, 2006) - Stackpole Electronics, Inc. introduces a new thick film high power 2512 size SMD chip resistor capable of handling 2W of power. Designated the RHC series, the incorporation of a unique design with specialized materials and processes yields a product that typically runs 30°C cooler than standard 2512 chips and has solder joint temperatures well below the industry standard for circuit boards of 105°C. Maximum five second overload power is also increased by 70% over standard 2512 chips, and the performance of the RHC shows no additional resistance shift for the EIA 575 standard short time overload test at the elevated power rating.

The RHC series is able to achieve tolerances of 1% and 5% at a TCR of 100ppm as a standard product. It is available in E24 values from 0.1 ohm up to 1 Mohm, and has a continuous working voltage of 200V. The only significant dimensional change is a significantly larger bottom termination, which provides a more reliable termination with better heat conduction. The RHC resistor has a special resistive element and coating that offer better heat transfer to the ambient air and are more tolerant to higher temperatures associated with high power. The product is also trimmed to more evenly distribute heat over the surface of the resistive element rather than concentrate the heat on a single hot spot as with normal calibration trims.

The RHC series resistor is ideal for applications requiring high power density such as large control systems, power supplies, industrial machinery controls, high power communications, UPS systems, HVAC controls, welding equipment and commercial ovens.

The RHC series is 100% RoHS compliant and is available in 4000 pieces on tape and reel, with samples available in three to four weeks. Standard pricing for the RHC 2512 is $0.12 each for 5% tolerance and $0.18 each for the 1% tolerance.
