NEWINGTON, NH, (December 15, 2006) - Thermo Fisher Scientific, the world leader in serving science, today announced that its new Kynar (PVDF) tank has won 2006 "Innovative State of the Art" and "Product of the Year" awards from the Association of Rotational Molders (ARM). The process fluid reservoir tank is an integral part of Thermo Scientific's NESLAB ThermoFlex(TM) recirculating chiller used to cool equipment in a variety of process industries. The tank was molded by Formed Plastics, who received the award from ARM, a worldwide trade association with members from 58 countries.
Peter Gimmel, vice president of Research and Development for Thermo Fisher Scientific's Control Technologies' business, said, "The ThermoFlex chiller incorporates a number of design innovations, and patents are pending. We're proud the caliber of engineering ensured that Thermo Fisher's vision for the tank's features and benefits could be achieved."
Unlike traditional reservoir tanks used in recirculating chillers, the ThermoFlex tank features an unusual integrated design to deliver key customer benefits, including ease of use. An integrated sight tube with level indicator allows users to monitor fluid levels instantly. An integrated funnel promotes easy, spill-proof filling, while an integrated full-flow filter ensures clean fluid to the application and is easily removable for quick cleaning. The integrated drain port enables 100% fluid removal from the tank.
The molded and machined dimensions of the Kynar tank have extremely tight tolerances. Special cooling fixtures are used to ensure dimensional repeatability. The glass sight tube requires an unusual flatness tolerance, while a deep molded pocket meets stringent wall thickness specifications.
