Thermo Fisher Scientific Debuts New LC-MS/MS System at PITTCON; Delivers Up to 10 Times More Sensitivity Than Existing Systems

New TSQ Vantage Increases Sensitivity, Efficiency Without Increasing Noise, for Better Reproducibility, Accuracy and Precision in Quantitative Analysis

CHICAGO (March 12, 2009) - Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, today announced that the Thermo Scientific TSQ Vantage will make its debut at PITTCON 2009. This new LC-MS/MS system delivers up to 10 times more sensitivity than any other triple quadrupole instrument on the market, without a commensurate increase in noise. New technical breakthroughs have given the TSQ Vantage(TM) unmatched signal-to-noise performance, providing better reproducibility and precision in the quantitative analysis of small molecules, biomolecules and peptides. The TSQ Vantage will be exhibited for the first time at the Thermo Scientific booth 1432 at PITTCON 2009, being held March 9-12 in Chicago.

Many LC-MS/MS systems today claim high sensitivity, but can only deliver on that promise by sacrificing precision, specificity and reproducibility because of high chemical noise levels. The TSQ Vantage offers up to 10 times the signal-to-noise ratio when compared to the Thermo Scientific TSQ Quantum series and far exceeds any other triple quadrupole instrument in the field. The instrument's exceptional performance is due to major technical innovations in ionization efficiency and ion transmission.

"The TSQ Vantage delivers the highest sensitivity in the industry and we've done it without increasing the noise," said Jonathan McNally, vertical marketing manager, bioanalytical instruments, Thermo Fisher Scientific. "This new system enables scientists working with small molecules, biomolecules or peptides to detect compounds at ultralow quantitation levels and to do so reproducibly with great precision; doing anything less risks data integrity and potentially an entire drug study. The TSQ Vantage offers a huge competitive advantage for companies working to successfully move next-generation compounds, such as biosimilars, through regulatory review quickly and reliably."

The new S-Lens ion optics system in the TSQ Vantage employs novel electrostatic field technology to capture virtually every ion and efficiently transfer it into the Thermo Scientific HyperQuad quadrupole mass analyzer. The S-Lens design is a significant advance over high-pressure, skimmer-based ion source designs, as it eliminates mass discrimination and lowers the gas load on the expensive turbo-molecular pumps. This innovation keeps the ion optical path cleaner, for a longer period of time, while maintaining sensitivity.

To maximize the workflow capabilities of the advanced LC-MS/MS technologies, the company is releasing Thermo Scientific Transcend, a sample extraction system for the analysis of complex matrices on the mass spectrometer. The TranscendTM system doubles sample analysis while reducing sample preparation time and increasing detection limits. Transcend leverages instrument sensitivity, auto-sampling and LC columns to deliver the highest productivity platform in the market. This advanced online sample extraction system, coupled with highly sensitive MS/MS on the TSQ Vantage, provides an end-to-end workflow solution for analysis of drug and other organic molecules.
