Thermal Printers work in outdoor kiosks.

Press Release Summary:

Compact FTP-609MCL103 series 24 Vdc printer has operating temperature range of -25 to +70°C. It has lightweight, die-cast metal frame that provides electrostatic discharge resistance, retains heat generated by the motor in cold environments, or acts as heat sink to provide heat transfer path. This helps maintain consistent print quality in outdoor or other varied-temperature environments, such as outdoor kiosks, ATMs, ticketing and parking dispensers, and tollgates.

High-Speed Printer Series Features Enhancements for Indoor/Outdoor Use

SUNNYVALE, Calif. - June 10, 2002 - Fujitsu Components America, Inc. today introduced a compact, ultra high-speed thermal printer series with integrated features that meet the needs of outdoor kiosk and POS applications, such as ATMs, ticketing and parking dispensers, and tollgates.

The new FTP-609MCL103 series is a 24V (DC) thermal printer mechanism constructed of a lightweight, die-cast metal frame for increased rigidity and durability in high-use applications. The metal frame also provides better electrostatic discharge resistance than plastic.

With an operating temperature range of -25 to +70 degrees Centigrade, the printer's metal body can either retain heat generated by the motor in a cold environment, or act as a heat sink to provide a heat transfer path. This capability helps maintain consistent print quality in outdoor or other varied-temperature environments.

The printer mechanism prints at 200mm/sec. and is available with a two-inch (58mm) or a three-inch (80mm)-wide paper path. A two-inch mechanism measures 82.5mm W x 40.5 D x 20.5 H and weighs 110g. The three-inch mechanism measures 109.1mm (W) x 40.5mm (D) x 205mm (H) and weighs 125g.

To meet the needs of various applications, the printer accommodates up to a 10-inch diameter roll of continuous, die-cut, or fan-fold ticket/label/paper stock. The printer is guaranteed to work with paper thicknesses up to 6 mils.

Other printer features include an easy-load paper drop-in system to facilitate paper roll replacement and a locking mechanism that retains the silicone platen after paper replacement. Optional cutters, which will be preinstalled onto the printer mechanism, will be available in July 2002.

The 2-inch, FTP-629MCL103 series printer is available immediately and is priced at $47.50 in one thousand-piece quantities. The 3-inch mechanism (FTP-639MCL103) is priced at $60.00. Lead time is 12-14 weeks. Pricing for a FTP-629DCL014 parallel interface board is $70.00, and a FTP-629DSL034 serial interface board is $72.50 at one-thousand pieces.
