Prism JETPACK 1000 Printer with Windows Driver Simplifies Transition from Labeling to Ink Jet Printing

DULUTH, Ga. (USA) - January 9, 2008 - The JETPACK 1000(TM) thermal ink jet printer from Prism now features a Windows® driver, making it compatible with most bar code and label-generation programs, enabling customers to make a seamless transition to thermal ink jet technology from print-and-apply labeling systems.

"When adding product ID information in the form of alphanumeric text or bar codes onto transit package and individual product cartons, there are significant advantages in both cost and flexibility in using an ink jet printer versus applying a label," says Bob Neagle, Prism general manager. "However, many users are reluctant to make the switch because they have built up a substantial library of labels using their existing software package. The JETPACK 1000 Windows driver overcomes this obstacle by enabling you to use the existing software to which you're accustomed and where your label layouts already reside."

The JETPACK 1000 utilizes HP thermal ink jet technology to provide crisp text and graphics, along with clear linear and 2D bar codes. Virtually maintenance-free, the JETPACK 1000 reduces downtime, increases throughput and can reduce operating costs by as much as 90 percent compared with label printing. By printing directly onto cartons, a customer can reduce the number of packaging SKUs it must manage, minimizing inventory expense.

The JETPACK 1000 delivers print resolution up to 600 dpi; produces bar codes, logos and graphics on secondary packaging, such as corrugated shipping containers and trays; and is particularly well-suited for adding variable information on "knockdown" cartons prior to the individual product being inserted.

Based on a disposable snap-in/snap-out printhead technology, the JETPACK 1000 is extremely easy to operate and maintain and provides far cleaner operation than alternative ink jet technologies. A wide range of environmentally friendly inks are available (in both cartridge and bulk delivery form), including Prism's CodeMax-116, which provides an especially dark black appearance, minimal bleed on corrugate, and extended decap time to ensure good print quality on the first box after a period of inactivity.
