IRCON Offers Its Stinger On-Line Thermal Imager With New Image Analysis Software

NILES, IL - The IRCON Stinger is a Thermal Imaging System featuring an uncooled Focal Plain Array (FPA) 320 x 240 sensor. It provides an on-line, radiometric thermal imaging solution that eliminates downtime in harsh, industrial process conditions. The Stinger provides real-time video capture rates of up to 60 frames per second detecting problems immediately as they occur with smart, powerful software that allows customizing of thermal image analysis on the fly.

New to the Stinger Thermal Imaging System for 2002 is the IRCON Image Analysis Software. Image Analysis Software is designed to handle laboratory, R&D, and process control applications where customers need to have real time temperature information about their process. Simple to use, test and playback features allow data to be captured and stored as image files or exported into files for use within third party software applications. Temperature data from up to fifty Areas of Interests can be captured at speeds up to 60 frames/second.

The Stinger Thermal Imaging System includes the Stinger camera - with focusing lens and auto-switching power supply - a Windows® 2000 based computer, Image Analysis software, connection cables, and optional I/O modules. The system provides both analog (NTSC © 30Hz) and digital (12 bit) video output, RS-232, and TCP/IP communications options. Optional relay and analog modules are available to provide process control outputs directly to PLC's and process controllers.

IRCON's new Stinger Thermal Imaging System provides exceptional performance along with long-term survival in most industrial process control application. The Stinger's software makes the on-line system highly intuitive and easy to integrate into an existing process control system. Mount the IRCON Stinger anywhere it is needed to capture on-line process temperature measurements accurately - within 2 degrees C, or 2% of the actual reading, whichever is greater.

The Image Analysis software package is fully user-configurable, and allows for set up, display, and archiving of thermal images. Minimum, Maximum, and Average temperature data can be displayed numerically for each AOI. Absolute and differential temperature images of the process can be displayed simultaneously to provide a usable thermal image of the characteristics of the process. Because the software was written for the familiar Windows® platform, point-and-click tools are easily utilized -
including ones for drawing, zooming, printing and changing color palettes. Simply begin an image capture, position the cursor to the area of interest, and customize the view on the fly. The Stinger's display can be optimized using standard color palettes. Regions of interest in the forms of circles, rectangles, or free-form shapes can be drawn around target zones to monitor hot or cold spots in the process. The Areas of interest (AOI's) can be keyed to alarms and can ultimately be used as outputs for process control purposes.
