Thermal Foil Sheets increase electronics deign flexibility.

Press Release Summary:

Intended for use beneath screens in such applications as tablets, laptops, and flat screen TVs, thermal foil products conduct heat away from internal electronic components and batteries to help maximize performance. Thicknesses from 5–40 µm with thermal conductivity ratings from 800–1,700 W/m-K increase design flexibility for manufacturers. Also suitable for EMI shielding, various grades are available and can be customized for handheld devices and other products.

Original Press Release:

Angstron Materials' Thermal Foil Sheets Can Take the Heat for Next Generation Smartphones and Other Devices

DAYTON, Ohio – Most smartphone users swipe and tap their way from app to app, navigating their mini mobile computing world with ease. Very few think about the technology beneath their screens that conducts heat away from internal electronic components and batteries to help maintain optimal performance.

With the number of smartphone users expected to reach more than 2 billion worldwide by 2016, manufacturers are being challenged to find new thermal management methods. Dayton, Ohio-based Angstron Materials, Inc. has developed a family of cost-effective thermal foil products that can be customized for handheld devices and other products. The graphene manufacturer’s foil sheets have been qualified for use by a major mobile electronics company.

Angstron’s thermal foils are available in a variety of grades. Thinner than other products on the market, the foil sheets give manufacturers greater design flexibility than competing methods. Angstron’s foil sheets also can be sourced with equivalent or greater thermal conductivity.

“Miniaturization results in less space to dissipate heat generated from today’s high-performance processors,” says Ian Fuller, Angstron’s application engineering manager and director of marketing. “Efficient thermal interface materials are critical for current and next generation devices due to the growing demand for greater functionality in smaller spaces like the new Apple Watch.”

Angstron is able to tailor its thermal foil sheets in thicknesses ranging from 5 um to 40 um with thermal conductivity between 800 W/m-K and 1,700 W/m-K.  Angstron has mass production capabilities for its thermal sheets which are suited for use in a range of applications including tablets, lap tops, flat screen TVs and EMI shielding.
