Original Press Release:

SATO America Announces the M-5900RVe Printer

A direct thermal barcode printer using the latest RISC processor
technology for industrial applications

CHARLOTTE, NC - December 11, 2002 - SATO America, Inc., a leader in barcode printing since introducing the first thermal transfer barcode printer in 1979, today announced the new M-5900RVe direct thermal barcode printer for industrial applications. The heavy-duty, industrial M-5900RVe uses the latest 32-Bit RISC processor technology to significantly improve throughput and imaging response time while delivering SATO's proven reliability and durability.

The new M-5900RVe incorporates a printhead designed for long life during direct thermal printing. Its one-year or two million linear inches warranty and up to four million linear inches life expectancy far exceeds industry standards. When benchmarked against comparable, available printers, the savings in print head replacement costs alone more than pays for the printer.

With a full 18 MB of standard, on-board memory, these printers provide enough memory, for most applications, to store multiple fonts and graphics without the need for optional memory. For extreme memory requirement applications, an optional 4 MB of Flash memory or an additional 16 MB of PCMCIA memory is available.

In addition, SATO's Windows® compatibility provides users the option of producing high quality labels by using either SATO's native command language (SBPL) or quality label design and production software. Now, the ability to easily and efficiently produce labels direct from Windows applications such as WORD, EXCEL and ACCESS are an option.

Additional standard features include 203 dots-per-inch (dpi) print resolution; print speed of up to 4.7"(120 mm) per second; high-speed, bi-directional plug-in interface modules (57.6k bps serial-RS232, IEEE 1284 parallel or USB); and 21 barcode symbologies including 2-D and human readable fonts including downloaded TrueType® fonts (scalable from 8 to 72 points).

Optional interface modules include Ethernet (10/100Base T) with WPC Plus (Web-based Printer Control PLUS), SATO's new tool for controlling SATO thermal transfer barcode printers via any web-enabled wired or wireless device, as well as Twinax/Coax and Wireless (802.11b).

The new M-5900RVe printer from SATO America is fast, durable,
dependable and cost-effective for today's demanding industrial
labeling applications.
