Battery-Operated Ultra-Lightweight Printer Features Enhancements for Customized Print Design Capabilities
Waltham, Mass. - Extech Data Systems, a leading developer of portable printers for enterprise-wide applications, announces its updated S4500THS battery-operated portable thermal four-inch receipt printer. This ultra-lightweight printer features state of the art high-speed wireless abilities for serial, IrDA, Bluetooth(TM) and 802.11b communication at 115K bps. With complete page printing capabilities, and a new Form Fiesta utility, the S4500THS is perfect for graphics printing and well equipped for the rigors of mobile computing. There is a new Windows Driver for Windows Vista and USB is also available as an option.
Form Fiesta is a free, easy-to-install page printing application that automates the process of form generation and printing allowing the user to create forms such as boarding passes and parking tickets. As simple to use as Microsoft Paint, it provides a variety of design functions to prepare a visually pleasing and informative form that includes text, barcodes and tables. Using the intuitive tool bar, the user chooses from a variety of text options to change the style, size and position of the text. Form Fiesta offers a selection of linear barcode types that can be inserted quickly and easily in any position. As the form is created, the code is automatically generated. Once the design is completed, variable data can be embedded and the final code cut into the application. The total size of the code is only one-tenth of that required by a typical graphic based program ensuring fast printing - every time.
Adding to the functionality of the S4500THS is a newly designed print mechanism that features a rated speed of up to three inches per second. A rechargeable lithium ion battery enables portable use and delivers 2.2 amps of power, which enable more receipts per charge and makes the printer ideal for demanding applications including route accounting, hospitality, and field service and sales. The printer is fully certified to IEC 68 standards and includes an additional elastomer over-molding for extra durability.
Extech's S4500THS uses a new 32-bit Arm 7 micro-controller, a flash-based, highly integrated CPU that comes fully packaged with completely new firmware, resident fonts, rotated fonts, downloadable fonts, graphics, logos and bar codes. For maximum performance in any environment, it also incorporates 2MB FLASH memory and 1MB SRAM memory that is under user control. Other options include a 3-track magnetic card reader. In-field programming is possible using a high-speed connector located below the battery. The printer comes with a 12-month warranty on all parts including print head.
