Therm-O-Disc and ABSMaterials Enter Agreement to Develop Advanced Sensors to Detect and Prevent Gas Leaks

Multi-year Pact Leverages Firms' Innovation, Market, and Service Capabilities to
Improve Safety Through New Generation of Flammable Gas Sensors

MANSFIELD, OHIO, AND WOOSTER, OHIO (October 5, 2010) -- Therm-O-Disc, a business of Emerson, and ABSMaterials, Inc., a privately held company, announced today they have reached agreement to jointly develop and market new technology to quickly detect leaking flammable gas. Terms of the multi-year agreement were not disclosed.

The agreement would combine Therm-O-Disc's experience, global manufacturing and service capabilities in sensor developments with ABS Materials Osorb(TM) swelling glass innovation and its sensing, separation, and remediation technologies. Target markets include appliances, advanced water treatment, oil and gas processing with essential oil separations, and other industrial systems and processes.

Osorb swelling glass materials were initially developed by Dr. Paul Edmiston, the Founder and Chief Science Officer of ABS Materials and the Stevenson Chair of Chemistry at the College of Wooster. Osorb swelling glass crystals change physical characteristics when absorbing certain liquids and gases.

"Gas leak detection is of critical importance to the safe use of millions of appliances and industrial systems," said Therm-O-Disc president John Rhodes. "There is significant opportunity working together with ABS to help our customers improve the quality, accuracy and reliability of sensing flammable gas."

ABSMaterials CEO Stephen Spoonamore said he welcomes the partnership with Therm-O-Disc and added: "Our companies have jointly developed a number of platforms we believe substantially improves the safety of flammable gas devices, and we're thrilled that Therm-O-Disc recognizes the potential to accelerate these sensors into the market."

The companies have an aggressive development schedule and expect to begin shipping sensor systems to end markets in 2011.
