The APC Switzerland Business Unit Gathers Speed

Two new spray dryers for the Neunkirchen refuse-fired heat and power station.

Following the reorganization process, Air Pollution Control Switzerland has succeeded in obtaining its first order intake as an independent business unit. It has captured a contract worth around 4 million EUR.

The project for the Neunkirchen refuse-fired heat and power station involves the replacement of an evaporating plant by one spray dryer per incineration line, i.e. two spray dryers plus ancillary systems, as well as modifications to the wastewater plant and electrical and control technology integration in the entire plant. The APC Switzerland Business Unit will be responsible for the realization of the contract within the scope of delivery as the general contractor. The pre-engineering project commenced on July 1, 2010 and initial supplies of material are scheduled for the end of August. Commissioning will begin in November and pilot operations in December this year. The warranty period will last for two years.

The spray dryers are designed to handle a nominal waste gas volume of 43,000 Nm3/h and evaporate 1,450 kg of water per hour. The Neunkirchen refuse-fired heat and power station incinerates 140,000 t of waste annually and supplies 62 GWh of electricity and 38 GWh of district heating to the networks. The Neunkirchen facility is one of six plants operated by E.on Energy from Waste (EEW) Saarbrücken.
