The Addition of Windows Smart Card Log On Makes the Authenex A-Key® Token Even More Versatile

New Windows Smart Card Log On Functionality Makes the Authenex A-Key® Token With ACert(TM) a Cost-Effective Alternative to Smart Cards, for Large and Small Businesses Alike

HAYWARD, Calif., July 14 / Authenex, a leading provider of affordable and strong authentication e-security products, announced today that they have added Windows Smart Card compatibility to ACert(TM) Software, which enables A-Key® token users to securely generate and store digital certificates and key pairs for use with PKI-related activity -- such as digitally signed and encrypted email and PDF documents, single sign-on for Web sites, VPNs, etc.

Combined, these products enable the A-Key® token to support the same PC functionality that smart cards do to enable network log on, which gives an organization flexibility when considering a smart card-based solution. Authenex and the A-Key® token now provide the best price/performance in supporting Windows Smart Card Log On, without altering the existing Windows infrastructure.

"Why reinvent the wheel? Rather than replacing it, our solution works smoothly with Microsoft's existing GINA. This hardens the existing security features and their underlying authentication environment," says Anming Tseng, the Authenex Director of Engineering.

Because A-Key® tokens do not require card readers or the added time and effort for implementation, they ensure a quicker return on investment. The token simply plugs in to the existing USB port of the client machine. Also, passwords can be assigned to each token, to ensure that only the authorized user has access to the stored certificates.

As an added benefit, A-Key® tokens contain up to one (1) gigabyte of encrypted storage, where user information (certificates, documents, etc.) can be stored. This storage is protected from brute force access. If someone tries to log in and fails a predetermined number of times, the token's memory will be erased. This feature is embedded at the hardware level, so it cannot be altered.
