Textron Fastening Systems Unveils Intevia® Intelligent Fastening Solutions Evaluation Kit

Hall 1 - Stand C13 - Farnborough International Airshow 2006

Farnborough, England (July 17, 2006) - Textron Fastening Systems today unveiled an Evaluation Kit for Intevia® intelligent fastening solutions that gives designers and engineers a hands-on opportunity to quickly and easily assess the features, capabilities and application potential of this advanced technology.

The Evaluation Kit contains three Intevia® intelligent fastening mechanisms currently available on the market:

o 9642; In-Line Fastening Mechanism (IL Series) - for medium-load, high-endurance applications, including cabinet and closet locks, electronic door locks, and security locking.

o 9642; Ring Fastening Mechanism (Ri Series) - low-profile fasteners for medium-load applications such as access panels or decorative trim attachment, and automotive accessory reconfiguration.

o 9642; Radial Fastening Mechanism (Ra Series) - with high load-bearing capability for structural panel attachment, secure locking, and rapid reconfiguration applications.

The Evaluation Kit also contains equipment to power and wirelessly activate the fasteners, along with cabling and interconnection modules for assembling networked fastener configurations. These range from simple pushbutton operations to three-button, radio-linked control and monitoring of multiple fasteners and their auxiliary functions.

Remote communications software links to embedded microprocessors to enable users to evaluate system technology and explore the capabilities and potential uses of intelligent fasteners in their own applications.

Intevia® Evaluation Kit devices are among the first in a series of intelligent fastening families that Textron Fastening Systems is developing to meet a wide range of future design, assembly and service requirements.

The kits being demonstrated at the Farnborough International Airshow 2006 will be available commercially in August 2006. Later this year, they will be upgradeable through the first commercial release of the TZ Operating System (TZ-OS) and interface software. TZ-OS controls, monitors, senses, and data logs networked intelligent fastening system configurations through a PDA-based Bluetooth® wireless interface.
