Test System targets CWDM network applications.

Press Release Summary:

Available for T-BERD/MTS-8000 and T-BERD/MTS-6000 systems, OTDR Modules helps users characterize, maintain, and troubleshoot CWDM fiber networks. Solution provides end-to-end testing through multiplexers and de-multiplexers, characterization of fiber plant for CWDM installations, and test capabilities across all fiber lengths. Users can test wavelength routes not yet in use without disrupting communications traffic on active wavelengths.

JDSU Introduces First-of-Kind in-Service Fiber Optic Test Solution for CWDM Networks

MILPITAS, Calif., Nov. 14 /-- JDSU today announced the release of the coarse wavelength division multiplexing (CWDM) series of OTDR modules for its T-BERD/MTS-8000 and T-BERD/MTS-6000 platforms. This solution combines several new features into one first-of-its-kind OTDR test solution for short- and medium-haul CWDM network applications. The CWDM solution complements the existing range of OTDR modules within the T-BERD/MTS family and further enables users to rapidly, reliably and cost-effectively deploy network services in one convenient package.

The CWDM OTDR solution was developed to help cable operators, dark fiber providers and telecommunications service providers characterize maintain and troubleshoot CWDM fiber networks more comprehensively than ever before. Using JDSU's CWDM OTDRs, users can test new wavelength routes not yet in use without disrupting communications traffic on active wavelengths. This "in-service" capability increases technician productivity and helps reduce installation and maintenance costs.

"Our new CWDM OTDR modules are part of JDSU's continued commitment to develop innovative solutions that address our customers' always-evolving requirements," said Enzo di Luigi, general manager of JDSU's fiber optics Test and Measurement group. "JDSU is uniquely positioned to leverage our internal optical expertise across multiple markets, including active and passive components and network solutions, to bring smarter field solutions to market faster."

The JDSU CWDM OTDR solution features a series of multi-wavelength OTDR modules compatible with the T-BERD/MTS-6000 and T-BERD/MTS-8000 platforms. The flexible solution allows for scalability within the user's system, including a dedicated dynamic range for Metro applications that enables optimized trace for all test scenarios. The solution also includes end-to-end testing through multiplexers and de-multiplexers (displaying all tested wavelengths on one screen), characterization of the fiber plant for CWDM installations, and test capabilities across all fiber lengths.
