Original Press Release:

Agilent Technologies' New Multiport Test Sets and Firmware Enhancements for the ENA Series of Network Analyzers Meet Emerging Test Needs for Antenna Switch Modules

PALO ALTO, Calif., May 1, 2002 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced two multiport test sets and enhanced measurement speed and analysis capabilities for the ENA series of vector network analyzers. The test sets and firmware enhancements will meet the wireless industry's emerging needs for low-temperature co-fired ceramic (LTCC) antenna switch module (ASM) measurements, and other multiport measurement applications. LTCC is a core technology used to integrate multiple discrete RF components into a single module in multi-mode wireless handsets.

The combination of the Agilent E5091A multiport test set and a 4-port ENA network analyzer is well-suited for both design verification and manufacturing tests of up to 9-port ASMs. The use of ASMs is rapidly growing to meet the increasing demand for dual- and triple-mode wireless handsets. The E5091A multiport test sets, available in 7- and 9-port configurations, are easy to use, accelerate throughput, and require only a single connection. The precise temperature control of the test set minimizes temperature drifts and provides accurate and stable measurements.

The ENA's enhancements improve measurement speed by 25 percent, resulting in 9.6 ?s/point, and add new measurement and analysis features to shorten the design cycle of wireless components such as balanced cables and on-wafer devices. Enhancements include:

- time domain and gating (option 010);

- 4-port ECal (N4431A) support;

- E5091A test set control;

- multiport TRL calibration;

- logarithmic sweep;

- power sweep and max 10 dBm source power; and

- touchstone data saving.

The ENA series of vector network analyzers provides the comprehensive measurement capabilities required to test both multiport and balanced devices. Two, three, or four integrated ports are available in both the 3 GHz (E5070A/B) and 8.5 GHz (E5071A/B) models, which provide a cost-effective combination of simple test system integration and the high measurement accuracy needed to improve test quality and repeatability.
