QUEBEC CITY, CANADA, June 5, 2008 - EXFO Electro-Optical Engineering Inc. (NASDAQ: EXFO, TSX: EXF) announced today the release of the AXS-200/630 VDSL2 Triple-Play Test Set for the installation and troubleshooting of VDSL2 network deployments and 10/100 Mbit/s Ethernet-based triple-play services.

The AXS-200/630 is the most universal test solution with support for ADSL, ADSL2, ADSL2+ and VDSL2 and boasts the industry's best interoperability. In addition, it is the first test set that leverages the benefits of Broadcom's customer premises equipment (CPE) multimode VDSL2 chipset, featuring Broadcom® PhyR(TM) (pronounced "fire") retransmission technology. PhyR impulse protection capability enables telecom operators to increase ADSL2+ and VDSL2 rates and reach.

The AXS-200/630 multimode VDSL2 triple-play test module has been specifically designed for assessing the quality of service (QoS) of IP-based voice (VoIP) and video (IPTV) services. This advanced solution provides the desired combination of DSL and Ethernet interfaces which enables testing in any residential triple-play environment. (An extensive suite of QoS metrics is available in an easy-to-interpret Pass/Fail format).

This latest access test module from EXFO is housed inside the multi-service and multi-medium AXS-200 SharpTESTER modular test platform, a handheld, WinCE-based test set that can easily be configured for copper/DSL/triple-play, Ethernet or optical testing applications in access networks.

"Broadcom's PhyR technology is incorporated in our ADSL2+/VDSL2 firmware and provides a new impulse protection solution that enables our customers to dramatically improve voice, data and video services," said Greg Fischer, Vice President and General Manager of Broadcom's Broadband Carrier Access line of business. "We are pleased to be working with EXFO to enable a simplified provisioning model, better reach and a significant improvement in the residual bit error rate (BER) under heavy impulsive noise conditions which, in turn, dramatically improves and eases deployments of triple-play services for worldwide network service providers."

"Network service providers are striving to deliver high-quality, triple-play IP services as they are pushing the last mile of their networks to new heights with ADSL2+ and VDSL2 technologies," said Etienne Gagnon, EXFO's Vice-President of Product Management and Marketing. "EXFO and Broadcom's joint efforts to introduce the AXS-200/630 test set will support innovative technologies, such as PhyR impulse protection, to be efficiently deployed and tested by our common customers."

As xDSL triple-play deployments continue to surge, there is an increasing need for field technicians to conduct in-service verification of DSL and triple-play deployments in addition to copper qualification and troubleshooting. To address this need, the AXS-200/630 can be optionally configured with an extensive range of copper measurements. This consolidated test solution is the most complete test set dedicated to the access market, allowing technicians to turn up triple-play services more efficiently than ever.

The AXS-200/630 VDSL2/ADSL2+ Triple-Play Test Set will be showcased at NXTComm 2008, booth SL9816, in Las Vegas, Nevada, from June 16-19, 2008. For more information about this test set, please visit www.EXFO.com.
