Teradyne Releases Design-to-Build Software V3.0; Software Maximizes Return on Test Investment

WESTFORD, Mass.--Aug. 6, 2002--Teradyne's (NYSE: TER) Assembly Test Division, a global leader in electronics testing and production solutions, announced the release and immediate availability of Design-to-Build (D2B(TM)) Software V3.0; which features a significantly enhanced version of D2B Strategist(TM), the distributed test management software that enables electronics OEMs, contract manufacturers, and their partners, to accelerate products to market and reduce the cost of test development.

Teradyne D2B software is a unique, modular environment that streamlines the free flow of product information throughout the design-to-manufacturing progression, it eliminates unnecessary data transfer and data manipulation steps, and allows customers to develop successful test strategies on their PC, early in the design cycle before ever stepping onto the production floor.

D2B provides an industry first by providing distributed test management across multiple test and inspection platforms, such as automated optical inspection, automated X-ray inspection, flying probe, and in-circuit test platforms. Teradyne D2B software suite of software tools allows manufacturers to maximize test effectiveness, lower capital investment and improve performance on current test and inspection equipment.

Principal upgrades included in Design-to-Build (D2B) Software V3.0 include:

-- Accurate predictability of test time and test yields of a selected test strategy.

-- Feedback from Teradyne test and inspection platforms verifies fault coverage.

-- Calculation and analysis of test strategy effectiveness in catching defects.

-- D2B/ECO(TM) - a completely new module that provides the ability to compare two revisions of a PCB assembly by performing checks to see if components have been added, removed, or modified.

"Teradyne's D2B software is a robust suite of software tools for developing successful strategies that identify the right amount of test at the right cost, while producing the highest yield," said John Wood, manager of Teradyne's enabling technologies group. "The information generated by the D2B software allows manufacturers to pinpoint test effectiveness, minimize capital investment, improve performance on current test and inspection equipment, and recognize any need for additional test equipment in order to cover identified test escapes. D2B accelerates the manufacturer's ability to improve time-to-market, time-to-volume and time-to-profit, by optimizing test and inspection designs prior to the manufacturing stage, reducing costs and optimizing throughput."

About Teradyne Design-to-Build software:

Teradyne's D2B software solutions are MS Windows(TM)-based and utilize an open architecture. The D2B software framework enables customers to outperform the competition, maximize profitability, and get to market first.

D2B Software modules:

D2B/Strategist(TM) is a unique decision-making software solution that enables the deployment of complementary test strategies and the ability to run multiple "what if" scenarios in seconds. Users can develop optimized test strategies based on existing or proposed test and inspection systems. Once a distributed test strategy has been determined, Strategist generates the desired test & inspection program across multiple test & inspection platforms. Strategist determines the test and inspection effectiveness of a multitude of strategies and provides feedback of actual fault coverage, test time and yield from Teradyne test & inspection platforms.

D2B/A3(TM) used to translate CAD designs, import bill of materials data, optimize data for selected manufacturing equipment, assign test probe locations and output customized files. D2B A3 accepts data from more than 30 different CAD design formats and generates programs for a wide variety of both Teradyne and non-Teradyne test and inspection equipment.

D2B/DesignView(TM) provides schematic viewing and linking of logical and physical design data. The graphical viewer can simultaneously update both schematic and physical information whenever the user selects a component or signal, enabling the simple browsing of complex design data.

D2B/ECO(TM) allows the comparison of two revisions of the same PCB assembly by performing checks on each board to see if components have been added, removed, or modified between the two revisions.

D2B/GenCAM(TM) Viewer enables the viewing of GenCAM design data files in an intuitive, graphical manner. The enhanced D2B GenCAM viewer is available as a free download from Teradyne's website -
