Agilent Technologies Introduces Industry's First Standards-Based Test Kit that Shortens Test-System Setup and Coding Time

New Test Kit Automatically Loads Drivers, Configures and Verifies Agilent Instruments in Minutes

PALO ALTO, Calif., Aug. 25, 2003 -- Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE: A) today introduced the industry's first PC standards-based test kit that dramatically shortens test-system setup and coding times. Agilent's new Test Automation Kit enables engineers developing test systems for low-frequency applications to automatically load drivers, and activate, configure and verify test and measurement instruments in minutes, allowing engineers to conduct the first test in one hour or less.

The Agilent Test Automation Kit can be used with a wide range of Agilent's most popular low-frequency measurement instruments, including digital multimeters, switch units, switch modules and mainframes, function generators, frequency counters, power supplies and oscilloscopes. It is the first product to support multiple instruments using one of several common programming languages to enable individuals who aren't test experts to rapidly deploy unique test systems.

"The Test Automation Kit automatically integrates the world's most popular measurement instruments using the PC's USB port -- saving days and weeks typically spent configuring GPIB, RS-232 and MXI links," said Mark Pierpoint, vice president of Agilent's Multi-Industry Business Unit. "Agilent recognizes that tools that enable design engineers to focus on measurements rather than setting up test systems are critical in today's world of increased time-to-market pressures."

The Test Automation Kit includes new Test Express software that guides users through the complete test and measurement process in less than 60 minutes, versus the days and often weeks now required. The software's easy-to-use graphical interface simplifies the activation and verification of test instruments and systems. The Test Express software also comes with more than 200 sample programs that can be customized for particular applications to help speed the development of new test programs. Test Express software works with Microsoft® Excel, Microsoft Visual Basic 6, Agilent VEE, NI LabVIEW, Microsoft C# or Microsoft Visual Basic .NET.

Included in the kit is an Agilent USB/GPIB converter for simple I/O connections, a wiring harness to enable easy connections from the switch, and a test module to enable quick verification of the test system. In addition, the Test Automation Kit includes two hours of expert consulting services from Agilent to help engineers optimize their test system.
