TerraSpark Unveils First Advanced Automated Fault Extraction(TM) on NVIDIA GPUs at EAGE 2012

Taking the concept of Interpretation Intelligence(TM) to new levels, TerraSpark Geosciences and NVIDIA demonstrate orders-of-magnitude faster execution using NVIDIA Maximus technology.

COPENHAGEN, -- At the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers' 74th Conference and Exhibition, TerraSpark Geosciences LLC will be previewing its new GPU-enhanced Advanced Automated Fault Extraction (aAFE) solution, one of the company's flagship technologies and a core component of the Interpretation Intelligence concept. The presentations will take place in the NVIDIA / HP booth 186.

Developed in cooperation with NVIDIA, TerraSpark aAFE uses NVIDIA® Maximus(TM) technology, which brings together the professional 3D graphics capability of NVIDIA Quadro® professional graphics processing units (GPUs) with the massive parallel-computing power of the NVIDIA Tesla® C2075 companion processor. The unified technology transparently assigns work to the right processor and is certified by industry-leading application vendors. NVIDIA Maximus provides tremendous performance improvements in execution times compared to traditional, multi-core CPU architectures.

"aAFE delivers the most accurate fault interpretation results in the industry, but there is some inconvenience to users waiting on day-long processing tasks, even though they are saving weeks of tedious fault interpretation. GPU computing has taken away that hurdle, reducing processing times by a factor of more than 10x," says Philip Neri, Vice President of Marketing for TerraSpark. "Utilizing just a Quadro 6000 graphics card, the process already will execute in just a few hours; by adding NVIDIA Maximus technology that adds the NVIDIA Tesla co-processor, our customers will realize a further, dramatic reduction in compute times."

TerraSpark is pioneering the industry's transition to Interpretation Intelligence, which replaces the tedious and labor-intensive workflows found in traditional seismic interpretation software. Interpreters allocate significantly more time to decision making, resulting in more accurate results in less time.

"NVIDIA has long been a partner of TerraSpark through its history of innovation in 3D interpretation and high-level graphics," said Michele Isernia, Energy Industry Alliances program manager for NVIDIA. "Our collaboration on the GPU implementation of compute-intensive processes has allowed TerraSpark to leverage the capabilities of NVIDIA Maximus technology for even greater end-user benefits."
