New Terminators Help Manufacturers Speed Up Crimping Process

Harrisburg, PA. - March 12, 2004 -Tyco Electronics, a business segment of Tyco International, Ltd., recently introduced the AMP 3K/40 and AMP 5K/40 terminators. These new machines are used to crimp reel-packaged electrical terminals, splices and contacts to wire. After several years of marketing bench-style terminators with many add-on features, Tyco Electronics has now packaged the most popular features into one value-oriented machine. Both machines are designed to provide manufacturers with the flexibility to meet the specific needs of a wide range of applications. The increased speed (300 mili-seconds cycle time and up to 2,000 crimps per hour - depending on operator capabilities) is considerably higher than manual processes and hand tools. The products crimped by the AMP 3K/40 and AMP 5K/40 are found at most wire harness and cable assembly shops as well as a considerable number of OEM locations in the appliance, automotive, industrial and most other major manufacturers in the electronics industry.

The heart of these terminators is a DC drive motor coupled with a quiet gearbox drive. The AMP 3K/40 is rated at 3,000 pounds of crimping force and the AMP SK/40 is rated at 5,000 pounds. The machines have a compact footprint and are both smaller and lighter than crimping machines from a generation ago. In addition to quiet, fast operation, the AMP 3K/40 and AMP 5K/40 terminators accept Heavy Duty Mini style applicators. The AMP 3K/40 can handle wire sizes from 32 to 14 AWG while the AMP 5K/40 crimps product to wire sizes of 32 to 10 AWG.

Electrical requirements are 100-240 VAC, 50/60HZ (6A) and 90-100 psi compressed air for use with air-feed applicators. Optional equipment includes: tool-less precision crimp adjustment, batch counter, work light, terminal lubricator, crimp quality monitor and wire stripping module.
