Corning Cable Systems Introduces FlexNAP(TM) Terminal Distribution System for Indoor Riser Applications

New system ideal for deployment in medium and high-rise MDU applications

HICKORY, N.C. Corning Cable Systems, part of Corning Incorporated's (NYSE:GLW) Telecommunications segment, introduces its FlexNAP(TM) Terminal Distribution System for riser applications. An addition to the proven FlexNAP System product family, the riser version is ideal for deployment in medium and high-rise multidewlling unit (MDU) applications.

The FlexNAP Terminal Distribution System consists of a standard fiber optic cable with network access points preinstalled at customer-specified locations along the length of the cable. The system is manufactured and tested in the factory, then packaged and shipped to the customer for immediate deployment. It can reduce the cost of deploying optical access networks by up to 50 percent, with the simplicity and reliability of a preterminated solution.

Instead of traditional deployment techniques involving a separate cable for each floor or the need to perform mid-span access at specified locations, the FlexNAP Riser System is simply pulled through the vertical riser conduit. The network access points then line up with the openings in the riser conduit where the FlexNAP System tethers can be accessed.

System terminals can be deferred until the first subscriber is connected, and subscribers can be added on an as-needed basis for a pay-as-you-grow approach. The FlexNAP System also allows for future growth, allowing for two co-located tethers, one for immediate connection and one for future use.

Corning Cable Systems' FlexNAP Terminal Distribution System allows for efficient
workforce management, with the option of deploying more highly skilled workers to
other areas of the network. At the same time, the risk of reworks and failures is reduced due to each cable in the FlexNAP(TM) System being 100 percent factory tested before shipping to the customer.

Through its Evolant® Solutions for Access Networks, Corning Cable Systems offers specialized portfolios of innovative products and services that enable customers to cost-effectively deploy fiber in the last mile.
