Teneros Customers Report 500 Days of Continuous Email Uptime

SiRF Technology and Greenhill & Co. Record Zero Downtime Since Installing Teneros' Application Continuity Appliances for Microsoft Exchange

DENVER, July 10 / / -- (Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, BOOTH #1015) -- Teneros today announced that its first two customers have experienced zero email downtime since installing their Teneros Application Continuity Appliances for Microsoft Exchange 500 days ago. Representatives from SiRF Technology Holdings (NASDAQ:SIRF) and Greenhill & Co. (NYSE:GHL) discuss their experience with Teneros below.

"Delivering five hundred days of continuous email uptime is a significant milestone for us, as well as for our customers who have believed in the promise of Teneros from day one," said Steve Lewis, Teneros CEO. "We founded this company to bring an end to all forms of email outages for any sized organization, regardless of the size of its IT budget, and this is proof that we have realized that vision. We are extremely proud to be making today's announcement."

SiRF Technology Holdings

According to SiRF's IS manager Parham Shabaniani, email is more business-critical to the global positioning system company than phone service. The four Microsoft Exchange servers at SiRF's Silicon Valley headquarters support 700 users by providing a centralized communications hub for worldwide operations. The company is also planning to add an additional server in India.

"When you have your employees talking to customers and conducting business over email, you simply can't afford any downtime," Shabaniani said. "We have international customers, and having 24X7 uptime means we can keep sales running, schedule calls and meetings, send PowerPoint presentations and spreadsheets back and forth, etc., no matter what time of day or night it is."

Due to the inevitability of server outages, whether planned or unplanned, SiRF wanted to find an Exchange continuity solution that would guarantee the level of availability needed to maintain high customer relationship management standards. "Teneros essentially gives us insurance, and I'm not talking software insurance," Shabaniani said. "It's a separate appliance that we use infrequently, but it's a rock. Now when there's an outage, we can figure out what's going on and how to fix it without being rushed, because we've got our insurance in place."

Shabaniani said that in the past SiRF could experience up to eight hours of unexpected email downtime annually. That was in addition to scheduled maintenance downtime performed each quarter, which could take more than an hour. "We haven't had a single minute of email downtime since we installed Teneros 500 days ago," he said. "Given that one outage can cost us up to $10,000 per hour in productivity losses -- which is close to the price of one Teneros appliance -- it's been more than worth the investment."

Greenhill & Co.

Investment banking firm Greenhill & Co. has 200 knowledge workers supported by three Microsoft Exchange servers spread across two continents. Many of the firm's employees in New York, London, Frankfurt, Toronto and Dallas work all hours of the day and night -- via email.

Before he discovered Teneros, John Shaffer, the firm's director of technology, searched for years for an effective continuity solution. "Email downtime is unacceptable at Greenhill. It's our number-one business application, and we simply can't function without it. Any downtime easily cuts our productivity in half, if not more. Our employees literally cannot get their jobs done during an outage," Shaffer said. "Sometimes an unplanned outage could take a whole weekend to recover. I'd stay up all night getting things back up and running. Furthermore, recovery can be an even slower process depending on the amount of data on the server."

As for scheduled downtime, Shaffer used to do maintenance one or two times a year, beginning in the middle of the night. "It would take six to 12 hours, and the window of opportunity shrank with every time zone we added," he said. With Teneros, pressured midnight maintenance and fire drills are a thing of the past. If there's a problem with the server or if Shaffer needs to update or patch it, Teneros takes over to keep email up and running, and Shaffer can address any issues during normal business hours.

"The minute I saw a demonstration of the Teneros appliance I knew I'd finally found the right product for our email continuity challenges, and I haven't been disappointed," he said. "We have had continuous email uptime for 500 days, even during a three day server outage, because the Teneros appliance did its job. It allows me and my team to focus our attention on other areas without having to worry at all about a communication outage. I can't imagine why anyone would ever choose another solution for email continuity."

Today's announcement was made at the Microsoft Worldwide Partner Conference, where Teneros has been named a finalist for Microsoft Corp.'s Partner of the Year Award in OEM Hardware Solutions, Device Manufacturing. The awards recognize top Microsoft Partners delivering market-leading, Microsoft-based solutions. Teneros is an Advanced Infrastructure Solutions Microsoft Gold Partner.
