PMD-TEMP - New Low-cost, 8-channel, USB-based Temperature Measurement Module Supports Four Sensor Types
MIDDLEBORO, Mass. - February 28, 2005 - Measurement Computing Corporation today announced it will begin shipment of the PMD-TEMP, a new, low-cost Personal Measurement Device brand temperature measurement module, on 5 April. The new USB-based PMD-TEMP represents an unprecedented value in temperature measurement. Providing eight temperature inputs, each supporting all of the common temperature sensors (J, K, R, S, T, N, E, and B thermocouples; 2-, 3-, or 4-wire RTDs; thermistors, and semiconductor temperature sensors), and 8 bits of digital I/O, all for $499 (single piece price), the PMD-TEMP dramatically out performs anything in its price range. NI's USB-9211, for example, has half the channels and limits the user to only one type of sensor. In fact, to find the multi-sensor functionality available in the PMD-TEMP, one would have to pay more than twice as much ($1,095) for NI's USB-4350.
Each channel of the PMD-TEMP is capable of monitoring any of the supported input types, so users can mix and match the sensor to the measurement without needing additional signal conditioning. Moreover, the internal measurement electronics accuracy of the PMD-TEMP vastly exceeds the accuracy specifications of the temperature sensors, so you are guaranteed to record the most accurate data possible.
At 5.0 inches wide, by 3.4 inches long, by 1.4 inch high, the PMD-TEMP is large enough to make connecting field wiring easy, yet small enough to fit on even the most crowded bench. Magnetic and Velcro mounting options make mounting easy, even in unconventional installations.
The unit is fully compatible with USB 1.1 as well as USB 2.0, and is supported by the Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP operating systems.
PMD software is provided in a variety of forms, one of which will be ideal for any application.
