Controllers, sealed to IP66, have flat membrane front and accept analog inputs for extended functionality in pressure, flow rate, level, humidity, and rate control applications.

Original Press Release:

OMRON's E5_N Series - An Evolution in General Purpose Temperature Control

Kyoto, Japan and Hoofddorp, Nl., Apr. 15, 2005 - OMRON Corporation (TSE: 6645; ADR: OMRNY), a global leader in automation, sensing and control technology, is pleased to announce that its market leading E5_N series digital temperature controllers now offer even better performance and superior functionality. The E5AN (1/4DIN), E5EN (1/8DIN) and E5CN (1/16DIN) combine a wide range of functions, such as three-phase heater burnout detection, parameter masking and a 2-step programmer. They also feature an enhanced front panel design with an easy-to-read, three colour, 11-segment display that makes it simple to interpret process values at a glance.

Built around OMRON's unique 2-PID strategy for optimum temperature control during start-up and production, the new generation E5_N controllers feature innovative new technologies and incorporate a host of new functions. For example, the controllers can now accept analogue inputs, extending their suitability for use in pressure, flowrate, level, humidity and rate control applications. Sampling and output update times have been improved, enabling the E5_N controllers to handle applications requiring fast response speeds and the highest levels of accuracy.

The wider selection of output types of the E5_N models are freely assignable for flexible use, providing, for example, alarm relays that can be used for control purposes. In addition to the standard single-phase heater alarm, a new feature of the E5_N range is a three-phase heater alarm, allowing two current transformers to be connected to detect both heater burnout and SSR failure at the same time. Not only does this deliver improved pre-maintenance information, it also significantly reduces costs by eliminating the need for a separate heater burnout alarm device.

The front panel design of the new controllers has also been enhanced, whilst retaining the familiar look and feel of the previous generation. The new E5_N temperature controllers now feature a large, 11-segment LCD display, making text and process values clearer and easier to read. In addition, the E5_N series incorporates a three-colour PV display to highlight process status at a glance. The colours can be programmed to change to indicate an alarm or event, or to show, for example, when the PV drifts outside a pre-set threshold from the SV.

Device set-up and monitoring is simplified by enhanced PC-based configuration tools which enable faster parameter set-up, easier device adjustment and simpler maintenance. These tools dramatically reduce the time and effort needed to set and manage temperature control parameters, providing advanced creating, editing and batch-downloading functions.

Sealed to IP66 and with a flat membrane front allowing use in demanding environmental conditions, the E5_N temperature controllers are suited to a huge range of applications in a wide variety of different industries.

OMRON Europe has its own development and manufacturing facilities, and provides local customer support in all European countries.
