Telephony Switches use software for TISPAN deployment.

Press Release Summary:

MultiNode-B modular Class-5 switches work with software that enables telecom operators to integrate legacy wireline networks into 3GPP IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) for PSTN migration to VoIP and fixed mobile convergence. Operators can deploy TISPAN-compliant architectures, delivering consistent telephony services across wireline technologies. Switches control IMAPs using H.248/Megaco to deliver POTS and ISDN telephony from same access platforms as DSL services.

Cirpack Releases TISPAN Enhancements Across its Line of Public Telephony Switches

Enables Telecom Operators to Integrate Their Legacy Wireline Networks Into a 3GPP IMS for Quick PSTN Migration to VoIP and Efficient Fixed Mobile Convergence

21 Century Communications World Forum, LONDON, February 22 -- CIRPACK, a developer of next generation voice switches for operators' infrastructures, today announced availability of software enhancements for its Class-5 telephony platform enabling wireline telecom operators to deploy TISPAN-compliant architectures. This allows quick migration of legacy PSTN to global voice over IP networks capable of massive cost reductions and easy introduction of new voice services such as fixed-mobile convergence according to 3GPP's IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS).

The TISPAN committee is the ETSI core competence centre for migration of fixed networks from circuit-switched to packet-based networks with an architecture that can serve in both. The goal is to seamlessly connect legacy POTS and ISDN users to a next generation networks architecture also delivering voice over IP services to new broadband users from the same platforms. Cirpack switches deliver consistent telephony services across all of these wireline technologies, sharing applications and resources with a wireless IMS.

Commenting on this development, Richard Brennan, ETSI TISPAN Vice-Chair, and TISPAN WG-2 Chair said: "TISPAN is designed to speed the migration of the PSTN/ISDN to a Broadband IP-based network, and is focusing on how to integrate today's wireline users into an IMS. This creates the critical mass of compatible technologies and deployments needed for a quick ROI on this massive migration strategy. I am pleased to see forward-looking vendors such as Cirpack developing the technologies which enable TISPAN-compliant networks to come to life. Cirpack's substantial presence in the European VoIP market, and thorough understanding of PSTN requirements, will enable effective deployments of these Next-Generation architectures."

"Migrating the PSTN to a VoIP infrastructure will call for maintaining some of the 2 billion legacy phones for a while. A quick and successful migration requires voice switching equipment capable of handling both legacy and VoIP services in a comprehensive way," explains Frederic Potter, Cirpack's CTO & Senior VP. "Cirpack switches have been simultaneously supporting TDM and VoIP users for several years. We are now adding support for protocols and mechanisms defined by the TISPAN working groups in order to help operators design massive migration strategies using standard architectures and Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) equipment."

In a TISPAN architecture, Cirpack switches control IMAP (Integrated Multiservice Access Platforms) using H.248/Megaco to deliver POTS and ISDN telephony from the same access platforms as DSL services. This allows operators to replace their legacy access networks while deploying broadband local loops and extend the reach of VoIP to the edge of their networks, without disrupting users' installation and services.

At the heart of a TISPAN architecture is Cirpack MultiNode-B, a highly modular Class-5 switch developed in collaboration with IBM. Using IBM's carrier-grade BladeCenterT, Cirpack MultiNode-B supports the very large infrastructures of incumbent operators enabling seamless integration of legacy phones within IMS domains. It can also host any third party software handling value added services (voice mail, video on demand, call center, etc.), serving as the foundation for consolidating infrastructures and applications according to the 3GPP IMS model.

About CIRPACK

CIRPACK develops next generation voice switching platform that can be connected to TDM, ATM and IP networks to deliver advanced phone services to all types of subscribers simultaneously and provide seamless migration of wireline networks to IMS/TISPAN architecture. It provides carrier-grade reliability, scalability and regulatory features for massive deployments of broadband telephony and IP Centrex for instance as well as of legacy PSTN infrastructures delivering ISDN or POTS services. CIRPACK switches have successfully passed all certifications in a dozen countries. CIRPACK works with industry leaders such as IBM Global Services to provide global solutions. With over 2 million Class-5 licences deployed, and over 40 telco customers in 15 countries, CIRPACK is a leading player in the softswitch market. For more information, please visit www.cirpack.com.
