New Easy Application Digital Telemetry System Developed by Accumetrics Associates

-- Offers fast, "bulletproof" measurement of torque & other parameters --

SCHENECTADY, NY (May 9) -- A new miniature, battery-powered digital telemetry system that can be easily applied to rotating shafts of diameters greater than 0.9 inches with Kevlar® straps has been developed by Accumetrics Associates, Inc.

Equipped to measure strain, torque, temperature, and other bridge-conditioned sensors, the AT-5000 EasyApp telemetry system is designed for easy application to existing machinery, to fit in tight places and to run for hundreds of hours on miniature batteries.

In announcing the new system, John Reschovsky, President of Accumetrics, said, "The AT-5000 offers, hands-down, the quickest route to solving telemetry problems that require a single data channel and relatively short-term monitoring. These might include shaft torque measurements, industrial drive systems, turbo-machinery, temperature measurements, and automotive applications."

The AT-5000 EasyApp components are extremely small. The transmitting module, which includes a lithium battery, is designed to mount opposite an equally weighted adjustable
yoke to maintain balance. The combination requires about 0.7 inches of radial clearance around the shaft. The components can be fastened to the shaft in just minutes with a strap made of
Kevlar - the same material used in bulletproof vests - and a screw-tightening fastener. The Kevlar strap has a tensile strength of 3000 lbs. and can withstand over 14,000 RPM, depending upon shaft diameter.

Battery life can be as much as 800 hours on a single lithium battery, depending upon sensor input type. The AT-5000 EasyApp can accommodate almost any measurement source, including strain gages, load cells and thermocouples. The EasyApp system can operate in environments up to 85°C.

AT-5000 EasyApp receivers are available in a variety of configurations and can be set up to display engineering units, to provide direct computer interface, or to convert measurements
back into analog signals. Receiving antenna options include a brass loop, a flexible loop, and a miniature stub antenna.

By gathering data on the rotor and digitizing it before transmission, the AT-5000 EasyApp telemetry system provides higher accuracy and resolution than noise-prone analog FM systems.

The AT-5000 EasyApp at a glance:
o Easy application - can be strapped to shaft in just minutes.
o Small size -easy installation in tight places
o Low power consumption - 50 to 800 hours operation on a single lithium battery
o High resolution -- 0.025% of range
o Crystal-controlled - no tuning required
o Digital telemetry - high data integrity and noise immunity
o High sample rate (up to 11,718 sps) - for analysis of dynamic phenomena
o Built-in strain gage shunt calibration for bridge type inputs.
o Applications - torque, vibration, temperature, strain, bending, displacement, horsepower.
