Tektronix Unified Assurance Provides Increased Security and Media Analysis Capabilities for IP Multi-Service Converged Networks

GeoProbe Network Assurance Applications Provide Enhanced Media Visibility and Testing for Legacy, Mobile and IP Converged Networks

BEAVERTON, Ore., March 13 - Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE:TEK), a leading worldwide provider of communications network management and diagnostics products, announced major feature enhancements to GeoProbe Network Assurance, part of the industry-leading Unified Assurance suite of applications for management of modern networks. Building on the extensive capability to perform multi-protocol, cross-architecture performance monitoring, the new features enable service providers to address network security issues, integrate active testing procedures and analyze media on IP multi-service networks.

With voice traffic now offered as an application over a service provider's IP infrastructure, mass call events in the Voice over IP (VoIP) domain can be similar in impact to denial of service attacks and can seriously compromise the security and performance of a network. The GeoProbe Network Assurance adds Spam over Internet Telephony and Mass Call Detection for next generation network monitoring, enabling superior visibility and performance management of converged services spanning SS7, 3G and VoIP networks. Mass call events between mobile or SS7 and IP networks are also detected whether SIP, MGCP, H.248 or H.323 is being used as the VoIP signaling protocol.

"Mass call events can be devastating to the service provider's network if proper controls aren't instituted very quickly," said Robert Taylor, Senior Manager, Fixed Multi-Service Product Management, Tektronix. "The new features in the Tektronix GeoProbe Network Assurance Platform can detect a high incidence of calls in real-time terminating to, or originating from, end points in IP networks and enable service providers to take corrective action before the network is adversely affected and customers notice service degradation."

Added Media Analysis Tools

The GeoProbe Network Assurance platform also has enhanced media analysis tools that enable service providers to capture, analyze and verify speech Quality of Service levels in the network. The GeoProbe Network Assurance platform analyzes media packets in real-time, providing per-call and aggregate statistics on media performance and call quality including R-factor and Mean Opinion Score. This feature of the GeoProbe Network Assurance platform further enables service providers to better manage current problems in the network, analyze network trends and collect performance data based on actual customer experience for Service Level Agreement management.

Active Test Integration

Tektronix has also integrated Active Testing capabilities with external platforms from the same GeoProbe Network Assurance GUI. Service providers' performance monitoring and management strategy includes the need to perform periodic testing of VoIP performance in response to trouble reports received from customers. The GeoProbe Active Test Integration capability enables users to initiate on-demand tests, collect the test data and report on the results using a third party active test system without having to jump between separate OSS application screens.
