Tektronix Reveals DisplayPort Transmitter Test Automation

DPO-DISPLAYPORT-Tx Early Adopter Software Provides Automated Transmitter Compliance Testing

BEAVERTON, Ore., Dec. 5 -- Tektronix, Inc., a leading, worldwide provider of test, measurement and monitoring instrumentation, announced early adopter software that fully implements and automates the tests identified in the DisplayPort physical layer source compliance test specification. The software adds predefined test sets that are automatically executed, reducing test time and minimizing user intervention. The new DPO-DISPLAYPORT-Tx software runs on the recently announced DPOJET Jitter and Eye Diagram Analysis software application for DPO7000 and DPO/DSA70000 Series oscilloscopes -- the highest bandwidth, longest record length real-time oscilloscopes in the world. The Tektronix solution for DisplayPort can be viewed at http://www.tek.com/displayport.

DisplayPort is the new digital display interface technology for computers, monitors and home-theater systems aimed at lower implementation costs and improving video performance. DisplayPort 1.1 gives manufacturers of LCD panels, monitors, graphics cards, PC chipsets, projectors, peripherals, components, and consumer electronics a next generation digital interface that is designed to replace LVDS, DVI, and eventually VGA. This technology is rapidly moving through early adoption with announced chip-sets and early previews of first generation display products. DisplayPort products are expected in the market as soon as late Q4 2007 and wider roll out is expected in early 2008.

The DSA70804 or DPO70804 8 GHz oscilloscopes are the primary instrument for DisplayPort transmitter testing and provide the best combination of performance, feature set and analysis using DPOJET software. The new DPO-DISPLAYPORT-Tx early adopter software adds automation support for all of the required transmitter test measurements.

DPO-DISPLAYPORT-Tx builds upon the measurement capabilities of DPOJET, adding specific new measurements required by the DisplayPort compliance test specification (CTS) plus automated test sequencing and report generation. A menu-driven interface allows the user to select the tests to run, and then guides the user to properly connect the device-under-test (DUT) to the Tektronix oscilloscope. For each transmitter signal condition (for example, with pre-emphasis enabled or disabled), DPO-DISPLAYPORT-Tx then automatically performs the full suite of measurements for the selected tests, shortening test time and minimizing user intervention. A report is generated documenting all measurement results with the specified limits, pass/fail results, test margins, and illustrative screen shots where applicable.

The DPO-DISPLAYPORT-Tx early adopter software aids engineers needing to quickly validate and debug ICs, motherboards, and graphic cards designs and compliance test against the DisplayPort 1.1 standard.
