Tekmos Introduces 'Drop In Replacement' for NXP S87C751 with TK87C751 MCU

(A 28 pin 8051-type Microcontroller with I2C compatibility, 65K bytes of flash and 128 bytes of RAM)

AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 20 / -- Tekmos, Inc. a leader in legacy device replacements to extend product life of microcontrollers, ASICs, Standard Products and FPGAs, has introduced the industries first true pin for pin, code and timing compatible drop in replacement for the S87C751 previously offered by NXP.

The TK87C751 is an integrated microcontroller combining the Tekmos 8051 Classic CPU core, built in power management, I2C controller, 2 timers, 3 parallel ports, 128 bytes of internal RAM, plus an industry first by including 65K bytes of Flash program storage, all within the original 28 PLCC package. A version based on the original 24 PDIP is planned for the 2nd Quarter of 2008.

The TK87C751 is designed as a pin-for-pin, code and timing compatible drop in replacement for the original S87C751 microcontroller previously offered by NXP. While being compatible with the original design, the TK87C751 offers double the RAM resources and 32 times the program storage. The use of flash for the program storage allows the customer to re-program devices if necessary.

Tekmos also plans to introduce several derivative products to replace discontinued NXP microcontrollers, along with the recently discontinued Intel 8031/8051 product offerings and drop in replacements for the Freescale 68HC05 microcontroller.

Bob Abrams, Vice President of Sales and Marketing stated the device is engineered to be a compatible drop in replacement. This eliminates any need to modify the printed circuit board or existing software code.

Pricing and Availability
The TK87C751 is available now in a 28 pin PLCC package, and is priced at $7.50 each in quantities of 1000 units.
