Teamprise Announces Java SDK for Visual Studio Team Foundation Server

SAN FRANCISCO, May 8 // -- 2007 JavaOne Conference -- Teamprise today announced plans for the creation of a Java Software Development Kit (SDK) for Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 Team Foundation Server. The Teamprise Java SDK for Team Foundation Server will enable software developers to create custom applications in the Java programming language that have access to the full set of features in Team Foundation Server, including source code control and work item tracking.
The new offering from Teamprise will be built using much of the underlying technology in the Teamprise Client Suite, a suite of cross-platform applications providing Java developers access to Team Foundation Server from within the Eclipse IDE, and on Unix-based operating systems. "The Teamprise Client Suite was constructed with a large set of core libraries and it is our plan to expose much of that functionality to Java developers in the form of an API they can use to build their own Team Foundation Server -enabled applications," said Shaw Terwilliger, Software Developer and Project Lead for the Java SDK product. "Microsoft already provides an API to Team Foundation Server for .NET Framework developers, so we see this product as a way to compliment that offering and extend it to Java developers."
Licensing terms for the SDK are still under consideration. "We've seen demand from customers who need to include Team Foundation Server access in their Java applications for resell to their own customer base, but there is also a need within the larger enterprise organizations for a Java SDK for creating Team Foundation Server -enabled programs and utilities for internal use only," said John O'Neill, Vice President of Sales for Teamprise. "We want a licensing model that will appeal to both sets of customers."
Initial availability of the Teamprise Java SDK for Team Foundation Server is scheduled for the end of the year. The first version of the SDK will focus on the source control and work item tracking features of Team Foundation Server, with additional functionality to be added in future releases. More information will be available on the company's website in the coming months.
