New 3M(TM) VHB(TM) Tape Bonds Metal Before or After Painting
St. Paul, Minnesota - August 1, 2002 - 3M announces two new 3M(TM) VHB(TM) Tape families that give OEMs the flexibility to join materials before or after the powder coating process. One new tape family can replace spot-welds in metal assembly applications prior to most paint systems. The other tape family can replace rivets or screws by bonding to most powder coatings after the painting process. With these two product families it is possible to realize immediate cost savings and improved product aesthetics by eliminating spot-welding, grinding, and polishing or by eliminating hole-punching, aligning, and riveting.
3M(TM) VHB(TM) Tapes provide a complete seal, have excellent vibration damping characteristics, provide for thermal expansion, and can bond differential substrates. Applications include attaching metal stiffeners in metal cabinetry, office furniture, and electrical enclosures.
