Overview
The IBM TotalStorage(TM) Ultrium Tape Cartridges 3589 allows flexibility in the specification and ordering of pre-labeled and bulk packaged data cartridges for the IBM TotalStorage LTO Ultrium family of products. Shipping with or without jewel cases can also be specified when pre-labeled cartridges are ordered.
The Ultrium tape format is the implementation of the Linear Tape-Open (LTO) technology that is optimized for high capacity and performance with exceptional reliability in either a stand-alone or an automated environment. It uses a single-reel cartridge and is ideally suited for large volume backup, restore, and archive applications.
New models of the 3589 are now available to provide ordering the IBM TotalStorage Ultrium 200 GB Data Cartridge. The Ultrium 200 GB format, based on LTO technology, provides a tape cartridge capacity up to 200 GB native capacity (400 GB with 2:1 compression). These cartridges can be used in IBM TotalStorage LTO Ultrium 2 Tape Drives, the second generation LTO Ultrium Tape Drive in the IBM TotalStorage LTO Ultrium family of products. You can choose from two models:
o Model 006 - IBM Ultrium 200 GB Tape Cartridges, labeled with starting volume serial information and optionally packed in individual jewel cases
o Model 007 - IBM Ultrium 200 GB Tape Cartridges, packed in individual jewel cases with two non-attached blank labels

The Ultrium Tape Cartridge 3589 provides the ability to order pre-labeled or bulk-packaged IBM Ultrium 100 GB Tape Cartridges, IBM Ultrium Cleaning Cartridges, and IBM Ultrium 200 GB Tape Cartridges.
The 3589 Models 006 and 007 provide IBM Ultrium 200 GB Tape Cartridges that double the tape cartridge capacity up to 200 GB native capacity (400 GB with 2:1 compression). These cartridges can be used in IBM TotalStorage LTO Ultrium 2 Tape Drives , the second generation LTO Ultrium Tape Drive in the IBM TotalStorage LTO Ultrium family of products:
o Model 006 - IBM Ultrium 200 GB Tape Cartridges in a 20-pack are labeled with starting volume serial information and optionally packed in individual jewel cases
o Model 007 - IBM Ultrium 200 GB Tape Cartridges in a 20-pack are packed in individual jewel cases with two non-attached blank labels
Features of the IBM Ultrium 200 GB Data Cartridge include:
o 200 GB native capacity in a single compact cartridge.
o Cartridge memory, built into every data cartridge, enhances functionality and media reliability by storing access history and media performance information for use by the tape drive every time the cartridge is accessed.
o Pre-labeling, with the ability to specify a starting volume serial and color-coding, saves time and labor when adding new cartridges into your existing inventory.
o Shipping with jewel cases unless otherwise specified, when pre-labeled cartridges are ordered.
The 3589 Models 002 and 003 provide IBM Ultrium 100 GB Tape Cartridges with up to 100 GB native capacity (200 GB with 2:1 compression). These cartridges can be used in IBM TotalStorage LTO Ultrium 1 or 2 Tape Drives:
o Model 002 - IBM Ultrium 100 GB Tape Cartridges in a 20-pack are labeled with starting volume serial information and optionally packed in individual jewel cases
o Model 003 - IBM Ultrium 100 GB Tape Cartridges in a 20-pack are packed in individual jewel cases with two non-attached blank labels
The 3589 Model 004 provides cleaning cartridges for the Ultrium 1 and 2 Tape Drives.
