Tap Filters allow remote management of network traffic.

Press Release Summary:

Distributed Network Taps allow users to separate select traffic from monitoring stream to provide analyzers with packets of interest only. Filter Options include MAC source/destination; IP address/range; UDP & TCP port/range; VLAN/QoS; and IP type-of-service, including any protocol of known port ranges. User can configure multiple filters per tap port using HTTP or command line interface where each filter can be set to PASS or DROP traffic selection.

New Network Tap Filters Improve Analyzer Performance

BURLINGAME, Calif., Sept. 26, 2007 -- California-based network tap manufacturer VSS monitoring, Inc. announces a breakthrough in Network Tap performance with the introduction of pre-filter options in its line of Distributed Network Taps. The remotely managed filter taps allow users to separate select traffic from the monitoring stream to provide analyzers with the packets of interest only, thereby increasing aggregation bandwidth and analyzer efficiency.

Filter options include MAC source/destination; IP address/range; UDP & TCP port/range; VLAN/QoS; and IP type-of-service, including any protocol of known port ranges. The user can configure multiple filters per tap port using either an HTTP or command line interface where each filter can be set to either PASS or DROP the traffic selection. Filter combinations can be implemented on the same traffic, narrowing the selection and improving the capture rate of any analyzer hardware.

The Tap's filters affect copied traffic only and under no circumstances affect the pass-through of traffic on the network ports.

The VSS filter taps are available in a variety of port configurations, speeds as well as copper and fiber media.
