Tantalum Polymer Capacitors have miniature, Frameless® design.

Press Release Summary:

Impervious to capacitance variations caused by temperature and voltage fluctuations, F38 Series offers alternative to MLCCs in smartphones, tablet PCs, and other wireless consumer devices. SMD capacitors come in miniature M and S cases and feature conductive polymer cathodes that can handle high ripple currents. While 1.6 x 0.85 x 0.8 mm M-case size capacitors are available rated for 10 V and 2.2 or 4.7µF, 2.0 x 1.25 x 0.8 mm S-case size capacitors are available rated for 6.3 V and 47 µF.

AVX Introduces F38 Series Miniature, Frameless®, Tantalum Polymer Capacitors for Consumer Applications

Impervious to capacitance variations caused by temperature & voltage fluctuations, AVX F38 Series tantalum polymer capacitors provide a high-reliability alternative to MLCCs in smartphones, tablet PCs, & other wireless consumer devices

GREENVILLE, S.C. – AVX Corporation, a leading manufacturer of passive components and interconnect solutions, has introduced a new series of miniature, Frameless®, tantalum polymer SMD capacitors.  Utilizing proprietary FRAMELESS™ technology, which is characterized by a unique lead-frame-less and facedown structure, precise dimensions, and low-stress packaging, the new F38 Series surface-mount capacitors provide high capacitance in miniature M and S cases for high volumetric efficiency.  Featuring conductive polymer cathodes, which can handle high ripple currents, F38 Series capacitors also exhibit low ESR, low ESL, and low, flat impedance over a wide frequency range, and are ideal for use in a broad range of consumer applications, including: smartphones, tablet PCs, portable gaming devices, and wireless modules.

“Impervious to capacitance variations resulting from fluctuations in temperature or voltage, the new F38 Series tantalum polymer capacitors provide design engineers with a high-reliability alternative to the noise-emitting MLCCs in mobile phone and other handheld consumer device applications,” said Allen Mayar, marketing manager at AVX.

Rated for use in temperatures ranging from -55ºC to +105ºC, AVX’s new F38 Series tantalum polymer capacitors are RoHS-compliant, halogen free, and available in two case sizes: M (1.6mm x 0.85mm x 0.8mm) and S (2.0mm x 1.25mm x 0.8mm).  Currently, M-case F38 Series capacitors are available rated for 10V and 2.2µF or 10V and 4.7µF; however, the following ratings are in development and slated for introduction later this year: 6.3V and 22µF, 6.3V and 47µF, and10V and 10µF.  S-case F38 Series capacitors are currently available rated for 6.3V and 47µF.  Two additional S-case ratings, 4V and 100µF and 10V and 22µF, are also in development and slated for introduction later this year.
