New HYPAC Tandem-Drum Roller Designed for Superpave Applications

KEWANEE, Ill. - The new C784 tandem-drum vibratory roller from HYPAC offers an 84-inch drum width, higher vibration frequencies and increased centrifugal force, making it ideal for demanding Superpave paving projects.

Featuring operating frequencies of 4,000 and 3,400 vpm (vibrations per minute), the new C784 tandem-drum vibratory roller can achieve working speeds up to 4.5 mph while maintaining 10 impacts per foot.

The C784 weighs in at 26,500 pounds and is equipped with a 205-horsepower Cummins diesel engine. The new roller generates 34,655 pounds of centrifugal force in low amplitude and 41,235 pounds in high amplitude and features 54-inch diameter drums to help minimize shoving.

In addition to increased performance, the new C784 offers an easy-to-operate joystick control system and a redesigned operator's compartment that enhances comfort and work-surface visibility.

With one joystick dedicated to steering and a separate joystick for travel control, the C784 provides a simple operator interface with a very short learning curve. Button switches at the tips of each joystick engage and disengage drum vibration as well as provide manual control of the water-spray system. Maximum roller speed and vibration frequency values are electronically adjustable, allowing for optimum compaction performance.

For increased visibility of both the drum edges and work area and to allow the operator to more effectively monitor the rolling pattern, the C784 operator's station includes dual swivel seats. Additionally, the control console is fully adjustable to accommodate any operator.

The C784's pressurized water spray system features two corrosion-resistant, polyethylene water tanks with a combined capacity of 340 gallons that extends the time between fills. An independent secondary pump/spraybar system allows water spray functions to continue should the primary system fail. Additionally, each drum is equipped with dual neoprene scrapers.

To ensure full drum contact even on irregular terrain, the C784 features an oscillating-articulating center joint that delivers ±12-degree oscillation and ±28-degree articulation. The ported-hitch design helps extend hose life by improving hose routing, which reduces torsional stress.

Maintenance checks and service is made simpler with an easy-access, wide-opening engine cover. An on-board diagnostic system simplifies machine troubleshooting.

The rubber-isolated operator's platform helps reduce harmful vibration feedback. For further operator protection, ROPS/FOPS with seat belt is standard. Unparalleled visibility is maintained with a single-post ROPS design that minimizes possible blind spots.

Other standard features on the C784 include a working lights package, mat temperature monitor, dash-mounted engine monitor and VPM display. Operator comfort amenities include cup holders and cooler storage.
