Tampa Bay Rays Selects Baron Threat Net to Promote Stadium Safety

Weather monitoring and forecasting tools track storms, lightning, and high wind

Huntsville, AL – Baron, a leading provider of critical weather solutions, announces that the Tampa Bay Rays’ Tropicana Field will partner with Baron Threat Net active weather monitoring and forecasting tools to promote stadium safety. Access to critical localized weather intelligence enables safety professionals to better track storms, pinpoint their location in reference to the ballpark, and provide pinpoint warnings and alerts. The Tampa Bay Rays organization also uses the information for weather warning messages to fans and employees.

Stadium safety officials selected Baron Threat Net based on its ease of use as well as access to numerous exclusive features including real-time lightning strike data.

Baron Threat Net supports effective planning and operations by providing accurate localized, up-to-date information on weather events including tornadic wind activity and lightning strikes. The service offers relevant data for park officials deciding whether to alter gate security checkpoint protocol, to direct attendees to shelter in case of high winds, etc. Tampa Bay Rays officials access the service in the on-site operations center, as well as via web and mobile devices, and communicate critical weather updates to fans, vendors, emergency and safety professionals, and Major League Baseball. Tropicana Field is a 1.1 million ft2 domed venue.

“The best thing for us is having Baron Threat Net in our command center and having the ability to identify threatening lightning in real time,” says Jim Previtera, Senior Director of Security and Stadium Operations for the Tampa Bay Rays. “It impacts our decisions every day.”

Baron Threat Net includes detailed data and visual monitoring on current and forecasted precipitation and wind conditions. An exclusive Baron product features data on severe weather threats, such as damaging winds, hail, and flooding. The platform includes Baron exclusive location-based pinpoint alerts and standard alerts from the National Weather Service (NWS). These alerts can be delivered using onscreen display, text notifications, and via e-mail.
