NKK Switches' Low Profile Washable Tactile Switches Facilitate Design Variation and Flexibility

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (June 11, 2002) - Continuing to lead the industry with superior design, NKK Switches and its network of authorized distributors offer the JB series low profile, washable tactile switches.

Constructed using a dome contact mechanism, the versatile switches give the operator crisp tactile feedback and positive indication of circuit transfer, as well as assure high reliability and a long life of five million operations minimum.

The JB single pole, single throw PC mount tactiles are sealed to
withstand process automation. The rubber seal construction prevents contact contamination and allows for automated soldering and washing. Additionally, molded-in terminals ensure integrity and lock out harmful contaminants. Furthermore, the terminals feature a slanted design that provides a spring-type action to enable secure PCB mounting and prevent accidental dislodging during automated wave soldering. The terminal spacing conforms to standard .100-inch PCB grid mounting.

A mere 10mm square, the JB series of momentary tactile switches are available in a number of actuator styles including flat buttons and extended actuators. In addition, standard or high actuation force models can be specified.

Design engineers can choose from varying actuator heights and an array of cap styles and colors. These options deliver aesthetically pleasing operator interface and enable design flexibility with numerous dimensions from the PCB to the top of the cap.

Snap-on cap styles include sculptured, flat and framed styles. The sculptured and flat caps are available in a variety of standard color options. The framed cap style can be mixed and matched in all available colors. Engineers can choose legending on any snap-on cap style. Legend packets are available upon request to facilitate the specification of any legend requirement.

Providing engineers with excellent design options, the JB series
switches can be mounted in several ways. JB tactiles can be used in a keyboard matrix and achieve a common bus electrical configuration, using strapped terminals, on a single-sided PC board. Custom keyboards can be designed with a flat button option or with snap-on caps through a panel cutout. The JB series can also be arranged on a single-sided PC board matrix with strapped terminals to achieve an X-Y electrical interconnection. JB tactiles are available in both straight PC and right angle PC mount.
